Happy New Year

While everyone has been flexing their watches this Chinese New Year of the Dragon, I have chosen to go with this Casio Edifice.

Everyone has a watch with a story and I am no different. This watch was given to me by my father in law on my wedding in 2011. At that time, he was facing a business crisis as he was not paid by his customers and he needed to pay his workers.

He went on to mortgage his house to the bank just to ensure everyone got paid. Despite being short on money, he bought me and his daughter a pair of Casio Edifice as our wedding gift and I have worn and taken care of it till today.

I am touched by his kindness toward his workers and his love for us, and every new year when we are back to visit him in Langkawi, Malaysia, I will put on this watch to tell him we love him too, without actually telling him.

Do you have a watch with a story too? Tell me in the comments!

Happy New Year everyone!

Your Father-In-Law is truly an amazing human being! More bosses need to follow his example regarding treatment of their employees IMHO ...

Lovely Edifice you have there ... own a couple myself, though they don't have any special story behind them. Good "bang-for-buck" watches 👍

He's an honorable man.

You are displaying the right attitude towards him.

I bet he noticed what you did without telling you.

Adding to your "request", I also happen to have an Edifice.

It was a gift from my wife and I wear it regularly. She bought it with the first money she made in her recent little venture.

Thank you! The EFR-526 was purchased online a couple of years ago from Creation Watches (I think?) in Singapore ... it's a model generally not available here in North America. Nice piece, but needs a Rally Strap!

BTW, my "significant other" is Filipina and she spent several years working in Singapore about 20 years ago. She loved the city and we plan to visit there next time we're travelling in south-east Asia 😎

A touching and beautiful story. These days we need more of these. Father-in-law sounds like a great man. Below is my Casio Edifice. I have others but, this one means the world. Bought it a year after my younger brother passed away in 2014 on his birthday. Solar power and has been going since. Just like my love and memory of him.

My father in law was a very fine man, trusted me to take care of his youngest most charming daughter, was a no nonsense lawyer/ entrepeneur but never understood my watch hobby. Before he retired here in Canada, he decided to return his pharmaceutical business back to the Japanese parent company after he shuttered his operations in Taiwan. Newly married for a few years to his daughter I was invited to travel to Tokyo when the business relationship was officially severed. There was compensation but also a gold Rolex D/D presented to my father in law. I later learned that he gifted the watch to his long time driver and friend who sold the watch to put towards a hair salon business that the driver’s family was starting. Seem to recall he always said that his inexpensive quartz Seiko was the single watch he needed.

A gold DD would be worth beyond thousands even back then. Your father in law have a big heart! I bet helping a fren fulfil his dreams would have been priceless too. Stories like this inspire us to be a better person everyday. Thank u for Ur wondering sharing fren. May he be blessed always!
