Bulgari Part 2 - The GIFenning

Image

No new content as such, but I wanted to pop a couple of gifs up on the special project Bulgaris and a few bonus watches!

Here's the Malachite Octo Tourbillon again. You can see the malachite stone on the skeletonised dial and on the sides of the case. There's a lot of dimensionality to this watch with a subtle radial brushing on the bezel. It's a loud watch, no doubt, like an outfit at the MET Gala.

The Papillon Tourbillon jump hour. This is ridiculously cool. Tons of movement between the jump hour and papillon (butterfly in French) minutes hand at the bottom of the dial. Another statement piece but so nicely executed.

A limited edition of the Octo Finissimo, with a chiming minute repeater. The sandwich dial open things up a little and lets the chime breathe. It's genuinely quite an achievement to fit this all in such a thin case. I think I prefer the off-centre seconds on the other models in this range.

Speaking of which, a matte black Octo Finissimo. I'd probably go with the monochrome titanium, but this looks absolutely mega. I'm not a huge fan of all black, murdered-out watches (says the man with a Casioak in all-black...) but this is it done very well. Chunkier PVD and ceramic cases look a bit odd to me. Keeping it thin feels more in line with the stealth side of things.

The Serpentis. I adore these watches. My fiancée hates them, but if I were in her shoes I'd be saving for one of these for years. I've noticed and contributed to a couple of threads on women's watches on here. This is a truly innovative take on this area. They're incredible to see in person and carry such a sense of confidence with them. The diamond set ones are a work of art.

Lastly, what Bulgari probably does best. High jewellery. High art and high prices to go with it. Have a guess at what this set of three would set you back. All bespoke 1 of 1 takes on each, with hand finishing. £50,000. £100,000. £1,000,000?

Try £9,000,000. The upstairs room had case after case of genuine treasure. To open the store in New Bond Street, they had 5 months of negotiations with insurance brokers. They had ID cards to open any case that logged the staff member's names and the time of opening. I was told by the boutique manager that they had to take "Some very far-reaching precautions before they were insurable." Safe to say we were all on best behaviour after that.

Ever wondered why you'll never access some of the most exclusive, waitlisted watches? It's because someone is buying this kind of thing first!
