Any amateur watchmakers out there?

I started tinkering with watches a couple years ago and got in deep. Wish I had more time to dedicate to it. This is from a 1970s Hamilton which ran but the the minute and hour hand didn’t turn. This was a problem with a loose cannon pinion (wide red arrow). Also had problems with the date wheel not turning. Had to reposition the ratchet for this (small red arrows) and the spring which made the jump (green circle).

I’ve found a whole new appreciation for those little objects of our obsession. A better understanding too.

Cheers!

Haven’t had the courage to tackle a chronograph yet. Actually I really spend about 50% of my time scanning the floor for dropped parts. I was at a GS9 event last year where the GS watchmaker was taking apart and putting back together a movement. He also dropped a part. Happens to all of us I guess.

It definitely happens. I dropped a spring and spent hours looking for it. I had resigned myself to the fact that I would never find it, and just as I was about to purchase a new part, I found it 😂
