The Why's

I've been waiting for more from WatchCrunch. I've been looking for the emotion and stories around these watches - I mean your watches. The why's. I'm guilty as well. What complication or what flex watch am I rocking today. I'm really looking for the meaning and stories to these little objects on our wrists that makes them so endearing. These watches were a big thing then for us, struggling to make wnds meet and saving up for our first house. These old fashion watches are all we could afford then. We matched them by brand because it was cute (maybe) we are a Team, so why not. We still are. After almost 28 years of marriage these formitable Guess? Waterpro watches were on our wrists the year we got married. And now with her 54th birthday we celebrate my wife, our family's angel by going back to where we started. Sure now we have the Rolex and Omegas (for me) and her Longines (for her) but we roll it back to the good old days today and our department store watches that have kept us in sync and timed right, all these years. Happy birthday sweetheart.

That's lovely, Happy Birthday Mrs Valor70.86 🎂

My better half is into the hobby too.

Here's our nicest watches

But her favourite is one she "stole" from me when we first met, a khaki king.

She was wearing it when we had a motorbike accident a couple of years ago. Her first & was very unlucky and ended up having 2 pins in her leg (she's all ok now) .

But the Hamilton hit the tarmac and got a few gouges on the lugs and looked decidedly second hand - she cleaned it up and it still runs as well as it ever did. She's convinced it saved her wrist from being broken (I'm doubtful but humour her) and it's now her "Lucky watch"

(I know, seems a bit mad to me, I'd say it's unlucky, but us blokes will never understand how ladies minds work) 🤣👍🏻

Most of my watches arrived broken from auctions and estate sales, so I have few stories other than their vintage and the occasional unique design studies. Once I get them running again, I put them in my rotation and show them to my fellow Crunchers. I hope their age and designs are enough to pique your interest (compared to most of the newer models being shown off that day). That being said, I love hearing the stories behind the watches, so much so, that many of those I follow are because of their brilliant story telling and the love they have for these intricate little jumbles of metal that we're all so fascinated with!
