Demagnetization tools

I recently purchased this watch demagnetizer. I’ve never used one before. Can anybody give me tips on the use of it or is it just that simple and straightforward?

Let me know how it goes. I always wondered if those things even work.

I have the blue brick version from Amazon.

I place the watch crystal side to the box, press and hold the button and slowly move the watch upwards away from the box.

They seem to work quite well, so it's worth having one if you have mechanical watches.

Especially since they cost hardly anything compared to some of the Watch tools I’ve purchased.

Is there a reason to put your watch crystal down? I always go case back down. I only do that because I don't know any better 😂

Oh wow I was just reading that you can magnetize your watch by putting it next to your cell phones. I had no clue I’ll never do that again.

No reason, but it's easier to lift the watch using the strap/bracelet and it's more likely that the crystal side would be exposed to magnetic forces as the case back is against the wrist.

Makes total sense. Thank you for getting back to me. 👍

Yea I got a shock when my wife's watch was running fast turns out the bracelet had got magnetised. So every time I demagnetised the watch itself it just got demagnetised straight away back on the bracelet! Good lesson to learn!

My bog standard blue brick off amazon did the job fine. But I imagine you do get what you pay for.

Also recommend the magnetometer app if you have an android phone ( not sure about iPhone but I'm sure there will be an equivalent)

Phones can detect magnetic fields, so you can see A) if your watch is indeed magnetised and to what extent, and B) if you've managed to demagnetise its.

You can also use a compass

I once unknowingly magnetised my Seiko SPB297 to the point that it was running 3 minutes fast a day.

It turns out that the travel case that I bought was made from a nice quality leather, and had a magnetic securing clasp fitted!

Took me a while to realise my mistake, and I threw the case away as it was obviously causing more issues than it was preventing.
