I love this watch but there is one thing that I hate about it. Depending on where the hands land they become invisible. I blame it on my poor vision but even with a pair of readers the time gets lost. It’s very frustrating and yet I still love it. I just bought the Kozo, hopefully it’ll be more visible. That being said tonight’s movie will be a classic! The Wages of Fear by Henri-Georges Clouzot.

I have a Seiko where the dauphine hands would disappear. I finally changed the hands to ones I could see.

Did you do it yourself or sent it out?

I did it myself when I replaced the defective original ST63 movement with a VK63. I got the hands and movement from a local watch guy since I didn't want to deal with AliExpress (which seems to be the source for most of these parts). The watch guy wanted $150 to do the job, or $50 for the parts. As the watch is only worth about $100, I went with the parts. I asked for a handset similar to a Speedmaster (i.e., white) and this is what he sourced for me (yes, they always have that green tint).

The red chrono-seconds hand is supposed to be replaced with a new one after removal, but I reused the old one since I/we couldn't source a new one. The tiny chrono-dial hands where very difficult to manipulate with my tools/loupe... which I didn't consider before starting the work. The original watch has no lume, so the lumed hands are interesting to read without any orientation.

Great watch, great movie. Makes me wonder which of my watches I would pair with transporting explosives through a jungle... 🤔

That’s a thinker. Probably a Hamilton Khaki Field or the one Schwarzenegger wore in Comando.
