This was the first JM watch designed. Had a Miyota automatic inside. Pilot/field watch has been on my mind for 2025. Should we bring it back?

Wow I actually thought this was an IWC at first. Well done to JM.

Oh, you work for them.

Yes, bring it back in titanium. “Spitfire” style with faux lume

Hi Peter, if you bring it back (you should), could you make the typography a bit smaller above the date window. It would give the illusion of the dial being a bit larger (less busy). A bit cleaner if you will. Have a great weekend.

Thanks for the feedback Danilo! Yes, the typography should definitely be smaller. A redesign would incorporate an entire study of proportions and refinement. I would also look to upgrade the movement to a Swiss one. Maybe LJP?

This with a manual wind, 100m WR, I think would blow away the watch geeks.

A manual wind? Very interesting, I did not expect that. Any particular reason why a manual and not automatic?

That would be a good move. Side stepping ETA and depending on the movement they are not thick so it would work well for a field watch. Have a good evening.

I can’t say I have a great reason, maybe autos drive more sales, IDK, but I enjoy the mechanical feel of manual winds, feels like a “purer” watch experience. Definitely more of a watch enthusiast direction, though.

And in some ways they feel tougher because they’re actually meant to be wound via the crown, whereas winding a lot of autos can actually cause issues. Plus, you usually get the added benefit of a thinner watch.

I have a Breitling 1953 reissue and it’s a manual wind, and an absolute pleasure.

So you either go manual but you’re limited to 100m water resistance, or you embrace auto and maybe push the WR to 200 which is rare for a pilot watch but probably a welcome feature and something IWC doesnt deliver.

It's a good looking design. If you do bring it back, would you consider the Miyota 9039 for it?
