Interested in the SINN u50 HYDRA

I am looking at getting a SINN U50 HYDRA but I have questions first. The HYDRA is a quartz watch and does anyone have experience on what to do when the battery needs changing. Does the watch need to shipped by to Sinn to replace the battery or can a competent watchmaker change the battery. Is the oil capsulated in a container or is it free flowing in the dial side of the watch. This my main concern but it will be a PITA if you have to send it to Sinn or Watchbuys every couple of years.

I don't know the answers to your questions, but from the Sinn website:

Due to the aforementioned oil filling, this timepiece must be a quartz watch, as the oscillation of the balance in a mechanical watch would be unable to overcome the high damping resistance of a liquid medium. [/quote]

It sounds like the oil is free flowing throughout the case.

Has to be shipped to Sinn in Germany. They say it lasts around 8 years on average. The entire case is filled with oil. Also if you happened to get an air bubble because of seal compromise you would have to do the same.

The case is filled completely by oil, i.e. there has to be no air the case. Therefore the watch has to be sent back to Sinn for battery replacement.

I'm not sure about U50, but UX has a CR2016 battery. It is almost as large as a quarter dollar coin and has 10+ years service life.
