How to check if GMT hand is aligned?

Sorry for the inquiry, I just purchased a seiko 5 gmt ref ssk001, it’s my first time to own a gmt watch, I really can’t understand why its not aligned with the hour markers it keeps skipping to the middle.

The GMT hand matches the progression of the hour hand. It looks like you're at 6:29, hence the GMT hand being between the hours. Check alignment at the top of the hour for best results.

Just following on from what @madminuteman said.

So your ‘local time’ (the white hands) is set at 6:29 and your ‘travel time’ (the red hand) currently tells 2:29.

If for example you changed the ‘local time’ to 8:00 then the ‘travel time’ red hand should point to 4:00.

Hope that makes sense
