A slight missed opportunity by TAG Heuer

Yesterday was the Rugby World Cup Final. Do I know how rugby works? Not really. All I know is that Handré Pollard can kick and that the guys in the black shirts mustn't get the egg-shaped ball across some line. In other words, like American Football, but better. (I am probably on a few hit lists now.)

Tudor sponsors the All Blacks. Which watch company sponsored the Springboks? None of them. I have tried to dig, but haven't found much, which is odd, because TAG Heuer sponsored the Bokke before, or at least collaborated with them, once in 2012/13 to celebrate the 2007 World Cup win and again in 2019. I doubt another limited edition is coming, but I still have hope. Well, I say that as if I'm in a position to buy one. The old Aquaracer 2000 quartz chronograph is probably more what I can afford, although one hasn't come up for sale in quite some time. Seeing how a whole hall turned into a mosh-pit after the final whistle, I'm certain a few people there would've been willing to get some green and gold on their wrist.

What a caseback on this beast!

Watches aside, I think we can all agree that all the guys on that field deserve our congratulations. It was a close game and both teams really played for the love of the sport. Hats off to all of the players and coaches involved. It was a test of strength, strategy and skill. The whole of South Africa sat upright when Beauden Barrett scored that try on the 57th minute and that game got millions of people to put their nonsense aside and stand united.

I have no idea who this guy is, but here we are!

As an England supporter I have to admit the Boks deserved the final result although I was for the All Blacks!

Interesting that the Boks won their last three games by a single point each time!?

But as Tudor owner I'm quite happy that they were highly visible supporting the best team sport in the World ( apologies to our American readers!🙄

The SA game with England was crazy. My one friend told me after halftime he just went to his room because he thought we were going to lose. Very close.

I have to admit, I was worried, because the All Blacks are really one of the most dominant teams in the world and just winning by one point isn't exactly confidence-inspiring. Tudor sponsoring the All Blacks was a good move, so it leaves my puzzled why no brand put their name on the Bokke. TAG Heuer is what I'd think of first, Rolex is also green and gold, but they prefer to buy out entire sports instead of just sponsoring a team. I guess we'll see if any changes happen in the next World Cup.

I played rugby as a kid untill I turned 20 I wasn’t any good, but I enjoyed it. Unfortunately Scotland just can’t seem to get it together but it was a fun World cup. I agree that Tag missed a trick there and with their sports watch credentials it seems like an obvious match.

I never played rugby and for the last few years I wish I did. What a sport!

It’s a lot of fun. I was just getting injured too much, and as I wasn’t that great I figured I’d stop playing and just watch from the side lines. Still love it though.

Those guys definitely take a beating there. Did you see that massive cut in Pollard's face at the end of last night's game? Definitely not a sport for the faint of heart.

Congrats to the Springboks well done 💪

After 2 Years in Southafrica my heart is still there!

As a citizen, I find it hard to disagree. Sure, it has its own problems, and some really horrible and usually violent ones at that, but when a common goal presents itself, a sense of camaraderie between the people is almost overwhelming.

At this little get-together, there was a young girl who needs to go to New York for a dance competition. In one evening a small group of people raised over R12 000 (just over 650 USD equivalent) which can really help the family out.

It's a country full of good people; politicians just like throwing themselves in the way of true unity.

As a New Zealander (and obviously an All Blacks fan) living in Europe, well done to the Springboks! Would have loved to win it but always respect to our longstanding rivals. Was a great night there either way!

What a view! One thing I always respect about SA vs NZ is that there're never any sour grapes between us. Both teams play for the love of the sport and you can see how devastated both Sam Cane and Cheslin Kolbe were when they had to leave the field. Those guys on the field are real role models and great sportsmen.

I think you're right! A wonderful country with lots of warm people. Politics with its corruption destroys a lot.

As an England supporting rugby fan, even I can agreee this was a missed opportunity
