I have been on the hunt for a tool style Day Date GMT that is clean and easy to read. Think Aqua terra day date had a love child with an Aqua terra GMT or Explorer II had an affair with a President. The closest I have found are the new Ball Vanguard and Marine GMT. I’m not a fan of the design… especially the pushers. I currently wear a blue triple date speedy but my eyes are going and it’s getting tougher to read the dial. I have a 19mm/7.5 inch wrist so 40-42 mm case is ideal. Any suggestions? Vintage is great mechanical is a must. Thanks!

I don’t think you’re going to find a different one. Ball’s GMT solution aside, most Swiss automatic GMTs use a 2893-2 or a clone thereof. The GMT hand and day gearing are generally the same. The Chinese have adapted a day-date movement to work as a GMT in the form of the Hangzhou 6460, which is essentially a modified 2836-2 clone, and that’s why the GMT hand gearing works backwards from the norm — it uses the day gearing from the 2836-2’s usual day complication.
I knew there had to be a reason it is such an unusual combination of complications. I was hoping someone knew of an obscure vintage movement or model. I guess I’m just going to have to buy two watches then…. Such a tragedy. Thanks!
