Delima, with jomashop tissot purchase to warranty or not

Hi, just purchased a new tissot v8 mechanical chronograph on jomashop and for the first time have had an issue with a watch; trouble with the upper chrono pusher. First the chronograph function wouldn't work but eventually it did and worked perfectly. Then later I noticed that the upper pusher was not seating properly and was not fastened to the case and indeed can be pulled directly out.

Now here is the delima, I can return it for full refund or find a watchmaker somewhere that can fix the problem, but first must provide a quote. My research suggests that most of these pushers are attached via a c clip on the inside of the case. If so it should be not a lot harder for a watchmaker to do this than replacing a battery in a quartz watch. I hate to return this as they are selling on jomashop for $329, great price for an automatic mechanical chronograph imo, and I got mine with a coupon for $304 so would like to keep it as this is or should be a simple fix (for a watchmaker), and there are no other issues with the watch and the chronograph function works fine. But there are no watchmakers in my area, PEI Canada. The local jeweler can ship it out though.

The movement is a ETA Caliber C01.211, and the watch is a Tissot T106.427.16.051.00. Any suggestions would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Return it and grab the refund while you can.  That chronograph movement is chock full of plastic parts and is not considered serviceable.  It’s a disposable watch.

I wouldn't quite put it the way that @JBird7986 did but I agree with his conclusion.  You're going to have a tough time finding someone to service it economically.

I have a soft spot for the ETA Caliber C01.211 and it's predecessors (the Lemania 5100).  They're cheap, robust (usually) and who doesn't love a chronograph?

The problem is that chronographs tend to take a lot more wear than regular three hand movements (because of the button clicking, the cam actuation which jolts the movement, etc.) And ETA doesn't really do a great job providing repair parts to shops.  Many watchmakers I know simply won't touch the movement because of unreliability of parts. And it is inevitable that it will need to be serviced (my chronos are a once every 5 years thing).

You should certainly try to find a watchmaker, particularly if you like the watch, but you may simply find it easier to convince Joma to send you another one.

Thanks, I think returning it is going to be my option, although living in canada I am going to lose on shipping on both the return and the initial delivery and am going to have to fight with dhl for return of duties and sales tax. Thanks for the info, as much as I like the watch, I don't want another problem facing me in five years or more. Shame on ETA IMO. There is also a youtube video of a reviewer where the chrono hand sits three seconds off of twelve when parked.

I knew of the plastic parts but figured that there would be replacement parts available if need be. Perhaps I will save for the prx chronograph.

This has me worrying about my seastar powermatic 80, it too has some plastic parts in it's eta movement.

The plastic thing is a little overwrought.  The Lemania 5100 has plastic components and is legendarily tough.

As for the powermatic 80, I do know watchmakers who will service it because of the ubiquity.  The fact that it's a three hander means that it will just live a less rigorous life than a chronograph as well.  I suspect your seastar will be fine.

Thanks and another thing it was just $500 canadian to my door so perhaps returning it might be a little too hasty. Will give the weekend to decide. Thanks again
