I would love a Millenary or a Code. I like the steel Codes.

I don't doubt the horology or the quality of AP but I find everything that they do regarding the Royal Oak so dull & boring. Clearly, AP are firm believers in the Hans Christian Anderson fable The Emperor's New Clothes. Nobody is ever going to say "Another Royal Oak, really" at their latest product launch, with the exception of a small child standing at the back.

They are cool watches and definitely can be had cheap now (especially the millenary)

The royal oak is a great watch and platform for AP, I believe they are right to build on top of it!

Oh absolutely, it clearly works for them.

For me, their product development team simply operate with one of these;

Image

"First up no. 30, ah, that's yellow gold."

"Second is lucky no. 131. That's a Salmon Pink dial."

"Lastly, we have no.165. Oh that's a Perpetual Calendar. Have we made one of these before?"

"Yes in 1987 & 2011"

"Bugger. Spin the wheel again."

Even though your comment is very funny, I don't think it's true. AP is the most innovative Brand out there when it comes to analyzing data, trends and by having only boutiques they have a very clear understanding of what their clients want. I'm sure we'll see great things from them especially judging from their latest releases!

I don’t disagree with what you say. My comments aren’t being critical of their means of making a profit. It’s just that I find their continual rehashing of the same watch, boring. Much as I find Omegas rehashing of the Speedmaster equally as boring.

I am obviously biased as I love the brand but I don't think this is a fair comment on AP to be frank.

There are so many other watch brands that also consistantly reinterprets its design language.

Panerai for instance has basically two cases, the Radiomir and the Luminor, with the later being... the former with a crown protection. Rolex has the Oyster case with variations in terms of bezel. The list goes on.

As for AP, I enjoy how the RO became a canvas for so many interpretations but also welcome the watches that bring something new (Starwheel, Code 11.59 RD#4 etc.)
