Going “Deeper” into This Hobby

My eBay vintage buy, to learn about mechanical movements, has been fortunate so far. Movement was loose in the case but adjusting movement ring solved that. Runs more consistently already. Had to buy better screwdrivers to get stem removed but so far coming apart nicely.

Crystal polishing is very satisfying, too.

Very nice work on that crystal.

Nice one, always happy to see an old watch being resurrected.

Keep us posted on your progress, & good luck 👍

Excellent work on that crystal. Can I send you few watches to work your magic on? 🤪

I doubt you could afford my labor rates. 😉 I do think it’s a bit funny as I don’t have any Polywatch. I’m using some very old polish I found in a drawer. Originally bought to take scratches out of display and case of an early model Apple iPod, circa 2008-ish. The stuff is (was?) called Applesauce Polish. Web site is still there, copyright 2005-2011! 😲 Not too surprisingly, all products are listed as “out of stock.” 🤣 But they sure work great!

Taking baby steps here. Got it apart and cleaned up. Figured out how to jury rig a case back press to reinstall the crystal. 👍🏻 Got it reassembled but had to adjust hand placement. 👍🏻Got it re-reassembled and it runs! Okay, so I did something wrong with getting the stem back into the keyless works, but think I can sort that out. Not bad for a first try.

Solved the stem issue and found a strap. Not bad, if I may say so. Didn’t disassemble the movement but had things apart to the level of a mod, cleaned ‘em up and got ‘em back together! I’ll call it a win.
