“Collection” reset?

With the exception of a sentimental watch or two, have any of you sold all your watches to completely turnover your collection? Have you thought about it?

Example: I occasionally see people selling what could easily amount to a whole watch box. I wonder if they are the “exit watch” type, or if they want to really shake it up.

For me: I like what I own. And I own what I like. Honestly. But…I am tempted to sell some things I thought I’d never sell. Kind of to prove to myself that I can. But also because it will fling the door wide open to try new things. These can get expensive - and if I want to try something new, it’s hard to make that a +1 (maybe in a consolidation scenario).

I have definitely thought about it. More so consolidating down to a 6-8 watch collection, but I am still new to collecting (3ish years) so there are still things I want to try. I will not go above 16, but would eventually like to get to 6-8.

I'm sort of in the midst of that internal debate now. My collection is too dive watch heavy, maybe even 1-2 watches heavy... 2024 might be a reshuffle year for me.

Wow yeah going down from the 10+ range is definitely a different proposition. I would expect you have a greater number of consolidation possibilities. I could see myself filling out the watch box but it’s not explicitly a goal. It had good drawers I could shove straps and strap tools in.

With your username I think you are in the midst of the correct dilemma haha. I was without a dive watch for a big and began to miss it. Happy to have a watch with timing bezel back. With young kids I find myself timing random things often.
