So "water resistance" was a major selling point over 100 years ago, just like today, LOL! ๐ Cool 1917 advertisement for some of the O.G. field watches of WW1 (there's even a ladies version) along with an example from 1914. The war didn't "create" wristwatches, but it certainly highlighted their practicality and popularized them. I wonder what those prices would be today, adjusted for inflation.

Or what else those sums could have bought in those years?!โฆ ๐ค
Should imagine these were probably the high end of the Trench watch world as Harrods has always been somewhere that shuns the frugal shopper...
Very cool advert ๐๐ป๐๐ป

Yup, I'd imagine these were probably mostly on the wrists of Lieutenants and ranks above. ๐ค Oh, to be able to buy a quality watch today for four pounds or five dollars eleven cents. I wouldn't have a watch box, I'd have a watch closet! ๐
Nice, thanks. So Harrods was advertising & selling "affordable watches" in 1915. ๐
looks like my Gruen 1917 I just picked up! I just wish it had the radioactive lume, and looking at the case I really doubt its waterproof so I always take mind when wearing. but it's in great condition and runs wonderfully!
