Dental Floss for Fixing Loose / Wobbly Watch Bezel

You have just bought a new diver watch via online platform, when it arrived you realize that the bezel rotation feels cheap, it has wobbly feeling or it is loose! Or you are a watch modder like me, when you applied an aftermarket bezel to your watch, it doesn't feel right! It is not as precise / tight as the original stock bezel.

Would you believe me, if I say that this dental floss which costs only around $2.5 could make your watch feels more premium? This could tighten your rotating bezel, no more wobbly or loose bezel.

I learned this trick from my trusted local watch repair shop. They taught me this for free, many watch repair shop know this trick and I hope we all can get the benefits from this, so we don't have to spend more money to go to watch repair shop.

This orient kamasu with an aftemarket coin edge bezel will be used as an example. Initially it is a little bit loose, and the click feels not so tight.

I am using Oral B as the dental floss, you could use other brand though, I think it might works.

This dental floss is quite elastic and very thin + it has mint aroma.

So here it is, cut around 10 to 15 cm of the dental floss.

Wrap it from the top of the bezel, and pull down.

Make sure it slip inside the bezel gap.

Tie it once.

Tighten it, pull again make sure it is tight, and the tied knot get inside the bezel gap.

Image

Tie the knot 2-3 times. Tie and pull, Tie and pull again. So it won't go loose.

Cut the excess dental floss with a scissor / to be more precise I use my nail cutter.

If there is still a little excess of dental floss going out the bezel gap, it is ok.

You could use more dental floss to press it inside

Rotate the bezel a few times, it will help fixed the excess dental floss trapped inside the bezel gap.

Your bezel should be tighter now.

If you think you need to tighten it even more, repeat from Step 1 with a different layer of dental floss. Repeat until you feel that it is good enough.

Enjoy your diver watch!! Maybe with this trick, you don't need to spend extra money to replace your rubber gasket like what your watch shop told you :D

I have been doing this for my modded watch since 2021 and I can say up until now, these dental floss inside your watch bezel is pretty durable. I haven't replace it yet up until today (16th of June 2023).

Unless, if you mod your watch again and you want to replace the bezel with another one, you might wanna re-do this tightening process.

Cheers!

On the flip side, if you use the dental floss, don't tie it off and use it like you were flossing your teeth, it will also then loosen a "tight bezel" ,note: Dental floss should have wax on it.

Excellent tip thank you.

Got an easy one for you - use cocktail sticks for changing straps on watches with drilled lugs. No chance of scratching 👍
