Glycine Combat Sub 39 Blue - Brush finishing the high polished on the center links

For anyone that likes the Glycine Combat Sub 39, but, dreaded the high polished center links of the factory bracelet like I do, I did something about that in my video here. The overall look after refinishing the bracelet to be all brushed like the watch head itself is SO much better.

This Glycine Combat Sub 39 Blue is my most recent rebuy. I owned this about 2 years ago. I actually really liked it as it scratched the itch for a Tudor Black Bay 58 Blue.. but, I think it does a few things better. 300m WR, thinner (if I remember correctly), drilled through lug holes for easier strap and bracelet changes, adding a date in a symmetrical location at the 6.

I never felt it was a blatant ripoff of the BB58 design. besides the details mentioned above, there are also a number details around the dial which make it unlike the BB58 and its own thing. I actually like snowflake hands. BUT, I think I like them more over a matching snowflake dial.. e.g. the Pelagos. So, in this Glycine's case it has a better handset to match the dial design. They are somewhat Mercedes handset-like, but, they don't have the 3-pointed star in the hour handset and it's just a solid circle.

I also like the manta ray design on the case back... I like manta rays, ok.

So, I bought it back. The one gripe I always had was with the factory bracelet. It's made well enough and does what I need it to do. I just could never understand and dislike the high polished center links. The watch case is near entirely brushed finished. Why would they add a decent section of high polish to the bracelet's center link?!

So, as soon as I received the new watch and after checking the watch over for any defects, damage.and alignment issues, I went straight to remove the bracelet and into refinishing mode.

I used an ultra fine sanding pad from 3M and went to work. carefully applying as straight and unidirectional motion to make sure the fine brushing would be even and not have any cross brushing texturing.

It was a process, and I think it took maybe around an hour to do all the high polish center links on both bracelet halves including their as solid end links. But, I think the only effort was worth it and I think the end result is quite good.

You can compare how the bracelet was before and after one half of the bracelet was worked in the front end of this video. In the middle, I show the progress of the brush finishing I was applying. And, in the end, I show the finished product reinstalled on to the watch head. You can see how the finish blends fairly seamlessly from the case to the SEL, and through the bracelet links.

Sorry, I didn't video any of the actual work I was doing using the ultra fine sanding pad. I didn't want a camera between me and the work. And, the work required me to concentrate and get close to see what I was doing and make sure the brushing movement was straight and even. But, I think I tried to describe how I did it and it's not hard to understand the concept.

Not quite the same but close and I love this for so many reasons (sizing, value, etc.). Bracelet was all brushed on arrival.

Nice. Yeah, I don't understand why a model line that has "combat" in the name has any high polish on it at all? Anyways, I rectified that.
