Rado DiaStar Original Alfredo Haberli Design

I have never been a big fan of the blinged out DiaStar. Always overlooked while window shopping. It has looked quite silly to me with it's huge polished bezel. It looked flimsy and like it would scratch and dent a lot. However, that all changed today.

I have been pondering the Omega Seamaster 300 and Aqua Terra for the last few months and finally made the effort to go down to Rivoli and have a look. They are both beautiful but just didn't feel that 'I need this!' feeling while handling them and having them on wrist.

They just felt a bit too normal today, and have found myself intrigued by more unusual watches lately. Bell & Ross Squares, Carbon-cased Doxa 300s, OctoFinissimos, Cpt. Williards and Tunas, H08s etc.

So, feeling rather underwhelmed, I decided to have a look around. And, while peeping some rather stunning but, generic Captain Cooks, this little brushed-steel Pebble caught my eye.

From a distance, one might be convinced it is something rather ordinary, but the closer you get the more fun you have.

From the FPJourne-esque hands to the dome-shaped brushed 'Ceramos' case. The Hexagonal cut crystal that looks like a polished, precious gem. The perfectly proportioned and colored date window and sandwich style lume plots. For me, there is just so much to love about this.

The day indicator, while not the most practical, is also rather interesting. Shown by a vertical 'Ice cream stick' above the date window which 'charges up' a notch each day.

It comes on a Milanese style bracelet with a solid clasp, and an extra soft white/grey canvas strap all packed up in a very useful and high quality leather pouch.

A lovely package just a sniff under 2000USD.

I really want this. Will have to sleep on it and see if I come to my senses in the morning.

And yes, the anchor logo rotates.

Fun Fact: DiaStar was the first scratch resistant watch and first to do a sapphire crystal. So my perception of it being a scratch magnet was a bit unfair. 😂

I definitely like the look of that!

There are many vintage Diastars out there for a fraction of that price however.

In any event I’m sure you will enjoy it!

Diastar definitely stays true to its scratch resistant saying. Inherited one from my dad and the bezel remained scratch free after 30 over years. Go with your heart!

I just got a Diastar within the last 2 weeks. I am very pleased with it. I have looked at the one you are looking at and I really like it as well. Just make sure it is really what you want.

I’m sitting on it as well. It’s the 60th anniversary edition watch and I’m getting it for $2000 in India as well. The flashy part is dulled down and makes it more usable for someone like me in second half of my 20s. I would switch up the textile strap immediately because it will make it extremely versatile because you can dress up or down compared to the bracelet.

I don’t know whether I should go ahead get it or save the money to buy something more expensive down the lane which I have my sight on!

Contemplating.

That's true my friend and that is the ongoing struggle we all face. 😂

If you see yourself selling the Rado down the line then I would say hold out and save for something you really want.
