To DIY new mineral glass ? Or to get PRO to do it ?

Hi crunchers , thinking of to get a new mineral glass for the old eagle 7 citizen ... Badly scratched when I bought it 2 months ago .. it ruin the "sunburst" effect of the face .. any ideas what tools or youtube channel to study ? Risky to DIY or better to send it to PRO ? @ayadai #my tools are very basic like pic above

Yea that’s really beat up. Have you tried To work poly Watch into the crystal to repair some of the scratches before swapping the Crystal. I highly doubt it will clear it all up but it might come out good enough for you not to need to replace. That being said if you still want to swap all depends on you confidence go do it your self and let f you willing to risk damaging the Watch. If it really a sentimental watch I would take it to a pro to get it done. Keep in mind you don’t have a crystal press so it may prove to be difficult to do on your own.

Thanks a million mate for the link .. will do some window shopping first 👍

Digital Caliper! You’re going to want a good measurement of the crystal to order a new one.

Holy smokes you need to grant him a Probono next time 🤣. Is that a 009j1? Is it running? How long did he have it for and did he ever have it serviced? I love the fading bezel look to it. I would keep everything that isn’t broken original. If you are going to attempt servicing it your self down the road I recommend taking a lot of pictures while you disassemble. At least I know you have steady hands so you have half the battle right there! 🤣

Remove the movement completely before removing the Crystal if possible. Some watches you have to get to the movement by removing the crystal first I’m not sure which one this is but my guess would be from the back. Out the movement in a zip lock back and seal it away from dust. Use finger cots or a glove when you handle the movement so not to put your human oils on it. (Chuckle) human oils

Really might as well go for sapphire while you’re at it.

Im not sure j1 or k version but it has no made in Japan printed .. his 89yo and that diver has been hiding inside his drawers for so many years .. I pity him cos few years ago he sold his Rolex Osyter gold plated to a private buyer for unbelivable cheap price (he bought it when he was very young in the middle east ) and only knew about rolex appreciation after I revealed to him my petite knowledge in horologist ..!

That’s a great point. However this is watches so we take “sense” with a grain of salt. 🤣

In my experience sapphire is easier to press for a beginner. I’ve never cracked a sapphire but I’ve cracked a few mineral glass being overzealous with the press.

Aww that’s terrible 😢. I hate that there are people out there who will take advantage of the elderly like that.

Ohh. Nah. I have only dabbled but I don’t think I enjoyed taking apart and putting together a watch. I have disassembled the st3600 movemts and put it back together a few times in the past just to see if I enjoy it but I’m definitely not at the level to take some ones watch and service it. But I’m sure there is a watchmaker here somewhere that might help.

@Mr.Santana toupdate, after nearly 2 hours of serious elbow and wrist grease, I failed to remove the scratch ... So I plan to buy the glass press etc etc and all within my budget but after watching the youtube DIY, hmmm, im too scared I might cause more harm to my precious esp when removing the movement and placing it back 100% precise at 12 and 6 o'clock @ayadai anyway really appreciate all the links for the tools who knows I might change my mind and go for kamikaze 😄

Sorry man. I wish you had better results. If it means that much for you maybe take the watch to a watch maker to swap the Crystal for you. You don’t want the glass to shatter and get glass pieces into the movement creating more issues. Did the polywatch at least improve the scratches?
