Mineral AR coated vs Sapphire AR https://www.watchcrunch.com/ayadai/posts/mineral-glass-reflectivity-a-comparison-234257

After reading comparison made by @ayadai I can see the underrated mineral crystal can play a suitable alternative and affordable for someone to replace their heavily scratch watch glass .. now to be more "interventionist" would it be possible for someone with no formal edu about watch repair eg:me , to get my own watch glass replaced at home by DIY with readily available tools we can purchase online ?? Do we need a 'in situ' heavy machine to carry out this task ?

You can do it! Yes you can definitely purchase the tools you need online and no heavy machine. Mainly caseback opener, probably screwdriver to remove the movement and the little press to put the new crystal in. Maybe some lubricant for the o-ring when you put the caseback on again and that’s all I can think of. Probably get everything in a kit for a reasonable price. Depending on the type of Watch you might be able to use a crystal puller that does not require you to take the caseback off. Good luck! 🌈 please let us know how it goes if you do it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you want a nice firm but nonmarring mating surface to center on both the case and the crystal so you distribute the pressure evenly and avoid slippage. Case presses usually come with an assortment of plastic inserts for thi.s

I didn't have this for my one attempt. I also tried using a grossly oversized industrial press. If you learn from those two mistakes, you'll be less likely to shatter things.

I'd assume acrylic would be most forgiving, but I assume.

Excellent point, the tools will definitely be better individually. 🎯
