I must admit I had never heard this term before. Have these type of watches been used to "regulate" other watches in a meaningful way?
It’s based on regulator clocks from way back. The hour hand was the most useful for setting pocket watches that were being produced, so regulator clocks had the prominent hour hand with the others pushed aside to small registers. Chronoswiss (and others) replicate the style in a wristwatch
