MOP - Meteorite - Mineral watch dials. What's your preferred watch dial??

Watchmakers use Mother of Pearl (MOP), Meteorite, and Mineral dials for various reasons. They provides a unique, iridescent look and (imo) to increase the price 🌚🌚🌚

And of course there’s many kind of special dial but can you share what's your preferred watch dial?

I have one MOP dial watch and likely that’ll be the only one I’ll have.

There's a reason these materials are not more widely used, a couple actually.

1st, and probably most important, is cost. It takes a lot of effort to acquire the materials & fashion them into dials. Failure rate can be high. Watches with these materials are almost always going to be more expensive than the same watch without.

2nd, they are unique and as such do not have broad appeal.

If I had the money, would I have watches with these materials? Yeah, they would probably make up most of my collection. I'm wired a little differently than most people though.

But my favorite would probably be meteorite or mineral just due to the perceived rarity of them. Wood & MOP are fairly renewable resources in comparison.

Meteorite dial all the way. I almost pulled the trigger on an in invicta pro diver with meteorite back in the day. It is still my go-to search when I’m bored. Haven’t quite found the one yet.

I'm not afraid of something outside the norm so I do like those type of dials. I own a meteorite dial and a mother of pearl at the moment.

Went for the meteorite because, besides looking interesting, I find it insane to have a piece of 4 billion year old rock from SPACE on my wrist. A quite humbling experience, a memento mori of sorts. Mother of pearl I like due to the variations in base colour and it's not over the top. Imho abalone, while pretty, is way too busy. Mineral dials I don't have at the moment. I have looked at a malachite dial but wasn't convinced enough to go for it. If I can find a lapis lazuli in that beautiful dark blue then that's most likely an instant purchase 😅
