You can wear a summer watch during winter, but you might not want to do it.

This morning I stepped out to the balcony and to another sunny and warm morning. This immediately solved my problem of deciding which watch to wear because the Islander ISL-68 is THE watch to wear when the sun is hitting 11.

And it is a real nice day, you can even see in the background that the sky is clear and blue. It feels like summer is back before the winter even started.

I should also acknowledge that the differentiation between summer or winter watches is just a perception. The Islander ISL-68 is (probably) perfectly wearable during a snow storm. However, this perception, no matter how wrong, is still making me associate wearing it with a relaxing sunset in a beach front bar and enjoying a drink after spending a day on the beach. It's a very "tourist bait brochure" stuff but it works for me and the ISL-68.

And I'm not going to turn into an arctic explorer just to prove to myself that the ISL-68 can be worn in sub-zero conditions, which are not very likely in Israel in the first place.

I also have to admit that I didn't wear it a lot during the summer, because the dial, while very fetching, is also a bit of a one trick pony. It glows in the dark but it's not the best when you don't want or need it to glow. The lack of indices and clear cardinal indicators makes me rely too much on the bezel, which can rotate and throw off the correct "at a glance" time estimation which is natural for reading analog watches, making me miss my sunset reservation to the afore mentioned beach front bar.

It's also quite heavy because Islander decided that adding mass never hurt anyone, and the mini-turtle case is not conductive to slimness. It's basically a very top heavy watch that can turn my arm into a pendulum.

So it's not the most comfortable or practical watch to wear as a daily, which is probably the reason why Marc at Islander decided to stop selling it after a relatively short period of time.

And I still don't feel comfortable using the Canon RP, which is why the only shot that was somewhat OK is the one below and all the other were taken with my G12.

The Canon RP might be the better camera, but it's currently not the one that I want to use because I still have a lot to learn.

Well, maybe until next summer when I should be good enough with it.
