The Dietrich SD-1 Skindiver is a great thing to wear when it's bleh outside.

I think that it was @watchchris who introduced me to the Dietrich SD-1 on one of his YouTube channel's videos. I immediately fell for it and haven't regretted it ever since.

The Dietrich SD-1 crosses a lot of items on my list, the first one is that it’s obviously not a YABBDDW. It’s a skin diver with a floating sapphire dial that adds quite a lot of depth despite the relatively thin case.

And it’s also very good at playing with the light, even on a grey raining morning – but it doesn’t do it with a sunburst dial, using instead a sapphire insert for the bezel which refract and diffuse the light to create an almost ion-drive blue halo.

The fact that it still manage to throw a faint ring of blue light when the weather outside is pretty much devoid of any sun, but has plenty of grey and rain to offer to those who likes this kind of morning, is remarkable

There is also the eye catching hexagons links of the bracelet, Dietrich had some kind of a hexagon fetish, but in this case it really played well with the SD-1 because their shape and satin brushed finish are so good that I’m willing to bet that you didn’t even notice that it has no fitted curved end links. It relies completely on the shape of the lugs and case to created the illusion of solid end links that match the curvature of the case.

It wears OK on the wrist because of the butterfly clasp which, like all other butterfly clasps, is quite miserable at making a bracelet fit comfortably on a wrist. It’s not too bad but it’s also not great, but I don't really mind being a bit uncomfortable in the case off the SD-1.

I am interested in the watch. What is different SD-1 vs SD-2?

IIRC the main differences are that the SD-2 has a sandwich dial instead of a floating sapphire dial and that the SD-2 has no date.

Nice, thanks. Both not in production

This is true but some online dealers still have some stock. I remember that Gnomon had a few SD-2 left as recently as a few months ago and there may be other dealers as well.
