Can a Seiko mod truly ever be 'perfect'?
Some months ago, I shared about my 6105/6309 Turtle-Willard hybrid Seiko mod. For a time, it was basically 'perfect'.
Those who remember, may also recall that it the time, it had 6105-style hands from a Steeldive. However, I did always feel that while the lume was really good and near-OEM, they did feel a bit 'flat'. Thus for a time, I was also looking for how I could improve on the build. While OEM hands were good, I couldn't find something close enough to the original 6105 style that looked good (i.e. nothing had hour and minute hands about the same width).
Enter Rob from MonsterWatches, who had this to say about his 6105 hands:
Needless to say, I was curious as to how good his "Swiss X1 lume from RC Tritec" that he spent a lot of money on, and I was very surprised by first impressions:
For one, I've never had hands glow white under UV before, and it was indeed, almost as good as OEM Lumibrite
However, it added something else that the Steeldive hands didn't have with it's brushed top and bevelled edges - TEXTURE:
For now, my mod is perfect, insomuch as there isn't anything on the market that I could buy to improve it. That being said, a better fully-lumed flat count-down bezel insert is always good, and I admit the Yobokies one I currently have fitted leaves something to be desired in the lume aspect.
