Vostok movements can be quirky - and I have experienced this with an Amphibia. Serviced it and it works without missing a beat. All I think all the watch repaiman did was clean it up and oil it - as these movements can be quite old when they eventually make it to a wrist.
Sounds like the mainspring to me, but only because I had the same problem on 2 of mine until the end of the mainspring came off its weird little hook thing completely (I have no idea what it's called, but Vostok movements have a kind of folded over and welded end on the mainspring unlike any other that I know of). It's also just as likely to be something else.
