Hey all,
I was looking to buy a new watch under £200 (in the UK) to celebrate getting a job in the industry I've been studying to get into!
In my collection already is :
Casio A168WA-1YES (digital stainless steel)
Casio G-Shock GA-150
Invicta Pro Diver 8926OB (40mm Automatic)
I wanted a new watch since the G Shock and the Pro Diver both feel kinda bulky on my smaller wrists. Attached is a photo of the Pro Diver on my wrist which might give an indication to the sizing of a watch (I'm kind of clueless regarding this, I'd rather not have a dinner plate on my wrist)
Whilst looking for watches online, my mother realised that the Seiko watches I was looking at looked awfully familiar to my late grandfathers watch. A Seiko 5 from the 90s. Attached is a photo of that on my wrist for more reference. Whilst it's a beautiful watch, it belongs to my mother and I would rather get my own.
I quite like the sunburst effect on some of the dials I've seen online. Whilst I'm not too fussed between Automatic vs Quartz, the smooth sweeping and the craftsmanship of an automatic is something I've come to appreciate from owning my Pro Diver for two years. The feature set of some of the quartz watches (like synchronisation with atomic clocks) is also something quite interesting to me.
Some of the watches I've taken a look at are alongside why I like them
Seiko SNK603 (Gorgeous blue dial)
Seiko SNXS73K1
Casio Lineage LCW-M100TSE-1AER (Sapphire + Titanium, beautiful dial)
Some of the things I've been looking for in a watch
Smaller (to fit my wrists)
Lightweight for a daily driver
Beautiful dial
Not too tall like my Pro Diver

Feel free to take a look at Citizen Tsuyosa. A fantastic and one of the best value-for-money watches you can get.

They look amazing, i'll take a closer look. Thanks
Yeah, I'd stay under 40mm and would look at quartz watches. Most manufacturers (Seiko, Casio, etc.) will have quartz watches around 37mm with slim cases.
Huge congrats on your new job!!
I like the idea of getting a Seiko 5, since you have the connection from your grandfather. In my opinion, a silver dial watch with a classic case (not integrated bracelet) and indices (not Arabic or Roman numerals) is the perfect style of watch that can be worn at a job, on a date, and in almost any casual situation too. For that reason I like how SNXS pick, but it looks a little too much like a Rolex, in my opinion, instead of having its own identity and appeal.
Have you looked at the SNKL15? I think it, as well as the black version, are among the very best designs that Seiko 5 offers. The black one was made famous when a watch blog article praised its good looks and crazy value, and it generated a temporary frenzy and drove the price up! But they missed the silver version, which is even more classic and versatile than the black.
Huge congrats on your new job!!

And if you like a blue dial, I think the snk793 has a great look too!

Thank you so much!
All the watches you've mentioned look amazing, I'm just curious as to where to pick one up from.
All of my watch purchases thus far have been from Amazon but there was a shop local to me that had a few Seikos in stock.

I wonder if they'd order a particular model for you. If I had a local shop I think I might prefer to give them my money rather than Amazon. There's lots of other websites that stock stock 5 models too, I think.

I'm not too sure, the guy who runs it never seems happy when I enter and is extremely unfriendly to young people. I'll try asking though

Oh dang, that sucks. No point on giving him your business, in that case! Plenty of websites with better customer service than that.

Will do! Is there any other watches outside of Seiko 5s i can look at? i've taken a look at the Casio Lineage watches and they look stunning
I would recommend a Seiko 5 with a 7S26 movement.

There's so, so many brands! Orient Bambino 38 and Timex Marlin mechanical come to mind. I don't know anything about Casio lineage, but if you love em then that's reason enough to buy one.
These are the two models i've short listed to.
Seiko 5 SNXS77K1
Pros
Automatic
Sweeping hand
Gorgeous dial
Smaller size
Cons
Hardlex instead of Sapphire (durability concern?)
Bad bracelet
Casio Lineage LCW-M100TSE-1A
Pros
Sapphire (better for a daily?)
Light
Multi band 6 (theoretically most accurate I can get)
Solar powered
Also beautiful dial
Titanium (matches my phone!)
More features
More techy so matches my job better...? (Software Engineering)
Cons
Slightly larger
Non sweeping second hand (though they hit the markers from what I see on reviews)
I'm having such a hard time picking between the two, so would love some input :D
