Seiko SKX007j

Got my SKX back from AD service .. what a nightmare. It would have been more beneficial to upgrade the movement but wanted to keep it as original as possible. Can anyone tell me if they have had the same issues from a AD Seiko Service Centre after a full service.

  1. Can’t get the parts as the model is discontinued.

  2. Water test a divers watch at 50m will test up to 100m on request. Anything more i.e 200m would have to send back to Japan.

  3. Date turns over at half an hour before midnight.

  4. After service watch power reserve last less than 12 hour.

  5. Don’t change gaskets or seals on a 12 year watch unless requested.

Considering Seiko are increasing there prices it’s about time they improved there after service, there QC and there packaging.

Saw a video on the Japanese brand KUOE watches and was blown away by there quality and packaging.

Seiko should take note …

I don't take any of my watches to AD. I have found a great watch repair shop, very passionate about watches and really good at what they do. Its like when you have you favorite doctor or hair dresser, you jusy don't switch anymore 😁😆😄

The last time I had my SKX009 serviced i had to take it to the biggest AD in Ireland and even then they sent it to the UK to get it serviced. The age of the movement and my insistence that it had to be watertight for swimming meant the service cost the same as the original watch price. I want to keep the 7s26 but replacing it with an nh36 makes a whole bunch of sense....

Just another example, and I love Seiko, but when a watch company gets too big to really pay attention.

Which is why micro-brands are now starting to really get the attention they deserve and are offering better quality at better prices at this point. It’s all about supply and demand….until the micro-brands get bigger and the cycle repeats. 🤣😂
