The watch that got me into watches is...

A Fossil hybrid smartwatch. Yes. An 42mm watch with an e-ink display and physical hands and three pushers. It tracks steps and heart rate, has music control, and vibrates for notifications.

When I bought it, I wanted a do-it-all watch: something I could use to track workouts, use as an everyday wear, and dress-up with a leather strap. I also had no concept of what would be too large on my wrist.

What enamored me with this watch is how you navigate it using the watch hands. Rotating it with the top and bottom pushers. I loved how smooth the hands sweep around the dial while scrolling through options. Sometimes I hold either pusher just to watch the hands go round and round.

There came a point when I realized how rarely I actually got to maximize all of its functions. I basically just use it to look at for the time without taking out my phone, and occasionally, the date. I still wore it often though so my wrist didn't feel naked. I realized that I didn't really want my watch to be "smart" in fact I seeked out this hybrid for the analog experience.

I've since discovered the smooth sweeping seconds and fascinating mechanisms of mechanical watches and eventually bought my first automatic, a Murph 38mm.

Today I am awaiting delivery of two more watches to add to my collection. However, the e-ink will fade and the battery will eventually fail but this watch will forever hold a dear place in my heart as the first watch I bought for myself.
