Had to save the Bred Alpinist for the 23rd, because this watch is my GOAT.

If I had to pick one piece from my collection and the rest disappear, the Alpinist wins every time. The SPB117 showcases every reason that Seiko is my favorite watch brand of all time.

I can’t imagine a single scenario where this watch would be out of place, and the history pulses through this one with every rotation of the balance wheel.

Its shark tooth indices, form, and functionality perfectly echo the use and purpose of the original Laurel Alpinist. Yet the overall design is a page ripped straight from Seiko’s 90’s catalog. The black is sporty, while the polishing is refined. My fiancé says it looks like the odometer of a sports car.

I love it for its overkill 200m water resistance. I love fiddling with the fidget spinner complication (compass). I love the always-clear sapphire crystal and its colorless AR coating. I can always rely on its 3 day power reserve, letting me sit it down on Friday night, just to find it still beating away Monday morning. And I love the classic cathedral handset, and the fantastic lume. It does everything, and lacks in nothing

It’s just my favorite watch of all time.

I have to agree. I really love the glacier dial, and I like the white dial SPB119 with silver indices. But the combination of classy and sporty, modern and vintage, dressy and durable with the 117 is just everything I love about the idea of the Alpinist rolled into one

Gorgeous man! Such a stunner. I wish this model was more available. I looked recently and couldn’t find one for sale at retail in the US. My broken watch brain would love to have both 😅

Thanks! It was my second "real" watch so it's old and all scratched up, but I can still wear it in every setting, as you said

I don’t think this is true for every watch (at ALL), but I really believe that- like G Shocks, Alpinists look way better with a bit of loving abuse on the case!

Hard to appreciate the scratches when it’s your own watch, and the first couple dings always hurt… but I think yours looks better for wear 💯
