I had seen pictures of watch collections in a modified Pelican case using the pick-and-pluck foam to store watches, and that solution didn't seem quite right to me. Being a designer, I thought I could do something a little nicer and more useful. I wanted it to have a little more fit a finish, as well as be able to carry some basic tools that I would like to carry along when going to a watch meetup or similar. I sketched it out and put a plan together using a Pelican case normally used for pistols (I think). The wood I used is Bocote and is incredibly dense. I have a friend that owns a custom packaging company, and one of his operators helped me refine the design and test out the fit to get it just right. Overall I was really happy with how it turned out, and I use it all the time.
Here is a link to a post I made with some video of opening it up and revealing the second layer.

looks great! now you have 3 options:
Stop buying watches since you have no more room in your case
go with the one in one out rule
buy more and make a new case
in any event they're all 1st world problems. congrats on the build
Awesome work 👍

I try my best to do the one in, one out rule. 50% of the time it works 100% of the time. 🙂
Awesome work 👍
Thanks!

I forgot the 4th option which is to make me one so it forces me to downsize!

I actually have a dresser-top box that I use most of the time...thankfully it has 10 slots as well, so things stay pretty sane for the most part. That one has drawers, which are an excuse to fudge things a little (as you can see). 😜
Very nice execution, great idea to use the vertical space for tools!

Thanks! It actually worked better than I had hoped. A lot of credit to the operator who helped work out the kinks in my initial concept and make it more functional in real life.
The case set up looks incredible! A job very well done!
