Birth Watch or Birth Year Watch?

This is my first post so I hope you fine people will forgive me if I ramble a bit.

My nephew was born a few days ago and I was trying to think of a gift to celebrate the birth. The thought of getting a birth year watch occurred to me since I was able to find one for myself a couple years ago. In fact I was fortunate enough to find a Seiko manufactured in my birth month by tracing the serial number.

Unfortunately, trying to do the same thing for a new piece for 2024 is proving to be quite challenging, especially for the swiss brands I've been researching. But then earlier today I saw mention of a "birth watch" instead of "birth year watch" when I was looking through some forums.

As far as I'm aware, the distinction between the two is that a birth watch is purchased after the birth to commemorate it while the birth year watch is supposed to be manufactured in the year of the birth.

I can understand the logic of both but still find myself leaning more towards birth year watch since that adds an extra layer wherein the watch is roughly the same age as the person.

Have you folks had experience with these two concepts? If so, which one do you lean towards?

Well, I think the Birth year watch is to romantically go back to your childhood and birth afterwards. If you buy the watch now it will be the both for your nephew.

Hmm, I see your point, the birth year watch is more something to get when looking back on the past while the birth watch is for the immediate present
