Heuer ‘64 reissue salmon dial

These carrera issues are collectible in their own right, and affordable. This is circa early ~2000s, I believe.

The salmon dial reissues are pretty rare. That’s my understanding at least.

The Carreras were never produced with salmon dials (I don’t think) but some of the white dial ones developed a salmon-like patina. I think that’s why Tag Heuer chose to release this dial variation. I think that adds an incredibly cool context to the watch.

36 is as small as I can go but the Forstner bracelet helps with the 18mm lug width.

Lemania movement, no complaints there.

I would love someone to explain the index arrangement to me though, I have no clue what it’s doing and the downside is you actually have no dedicated minute markers other than at the 5 minute marks. That’s a little annoying but arguably a quirk.

Overall, I think this was a great addition to my collection. It’s been my dress piece half the time, (I don’t own or wear any traditional dress watches, that’s just my style) actually. Don’t see myself selling it.

Enjoy!

Great looking watch, and I think 36 is a really interesting size for a chrono.

I assume it was standard back then??? No idea but as we know everything was smaller

I think 36mm was on the bigger side for a long time. Not sure when it became a “normal” men’s size, but there are lists of 34mm and smaller men’s watches from the 1950s.

I’m really liking this Carmel /salmon dial colour a first for my eyes!

Congrats.!

Even for chronos? I wonder if they were usually 38. They're sort of supposed to be "big" as a rule, no?

It can definitely look way more pink, the metallic finish gives it a huge range in that regard depending on the light. Today it is cloudy, though.

How much did you pay for it, and was it a complete set with a box and papers? 🧐

4.1 on Chrono24 from a certified dealer. It was great service, the watch was running too fast and he took it back and regulated it free of charge. I’m going to send him an email and we’ll see what he says. I have the certificate of purchase and all that. No, no box and papers. But it’s “guaranteed authentic” so either the dealer resolves this or chrono24 will.

For that money, it should be in excellent condition and a full set with box and papers. Any updates?

The customer relations guy is going to call me today. You can say that, but based on chrono24 listings 4k for mint condition is on the cheaper side

Yes, I do own one, and that's why I immediately thought yours looked strange. I am glad you immediately rectified the issue with the seller, and the seller seems genuine. The watch is uncommon and historically crucial for Heuer's heritage. Cheers 🍻
