Are steel and gold watches a fad?

If you love them/own them, I DO NOT mean to make you feel bad. I'm sincerely asking... Now... Let's get into it.

Two tone watches were popular in the 80s, they went out of fashion in the 2000s, and now, along with porno mustaches, are in again.

I think the above example looks gorgeous, but I'm wondering if these types of watches actually stand the test of time, or are just benefitting from cyclical appeal.

I'd like everyone's objective thoughts, especially if you personally love two tone watches.

Obviously they are light years more affordable than full gold, but I've often wondered if I ever bought a two tone watch, whether or not it would actually look good in X amount of time or wind up seeming tacky and no loner in vogue.

As opposed to solid gold, or steel, which seemingly will always be in fashion.
