Affordable Luxury and all things Filippo Loreti

I see that no one, and quite rightly, has much to say about FL. A friend of mine bought an automatic Venice Moonphase and was so impressed that he bou...

At least the offerings on AliExpress reflect their true value. FL gets some, if not all, of their stuff from China Watch Manufacturer (http://www.roexplore.com/), which also, according to their website, makes stuff for Rolex and other major brands. What exactly they do make for major brands is not stated, but I suspect that they make things like cases, backs and bracelets. The whole drop-ship thing is fascinating.

I thought as much. I know FL is little more than over-priced, drop-shipped eye candy. In fact, if anyone else out there has fallen for the hype before he, or she, saw the light, then it would be fun to hear from him, or her.

Also, divers are just plain cool. Kenneth needs (and likes) dress watches for his work where there is a lot of interaction with clients. That and being well turned out could be the difference between failure and success. Just as a suit and tie speaks volumes about the taste of the person you're facing across the table, so too does a wrist watch. You don't want to show up with a Curren or any other "affordable luxury" watch for that million dollar deal negotiation, but nor do you want to haggle with your mechanic while wearing a Rolex.

I met a U.S. Navy SEAL about 35 years ago and he was wearing a G-Shock. He said they were very rugged and proceeded to smack it against the wall while he was wearing it. He said they were inexpensive and thus easy to replace if seriously damaged.

It's hard to say, as you can look at a watch and have a reaction not unlike Pavlov's dog and start drooling, which is what happens to me from time to time.

It depends what you do for a living. With that in mind, do you want to wear it for the sheer pleasure of wearing your watch, or to impress someone, which can backfire if that "someone" thinks you're showing off. These days a dive watch is considered a dress watch, especially in a world where people wear baseball hats on backwards while wearing a suit in a nice restaurant. If there were as many SCUBA divers in the world as there are dive watches, there would be no room for the fish. I just like the look and feel of a dive watch. My grail dream watch is a no-date Rolex Submariner.
