Thrill of the Hunt

My first post here, so I decided to post about my latest addition: A neo-vintage 1983 Seiko Dolce 7731-5110

One of the best things about this hobby is the "hunt": you find a watch that you like, and you start to go around the internet to find a more accessible alternative. I dress up a lot in suits for work, so naturally I'm more inclined to dress watches. And as iconic dress watches go, you can't get more iconic than Cartier Tank. The problem with Cartier Tank is, well it's a Cartier. It's just not accessible for an average joe like me. Hence, the hunt began. Hamilton Boulton, Vario Versa, Seiko SUP880, all went through the list but had their reasons for being dropped. And then, something popped up through the internet: neo-vintage Seiko Dolce references. Therefore, the second phase of the hunt began. Vintage hunting is something I've only done once when I was looking for a King Seiko, so looking into an obscure Seiko reference with minimal information on the internet was definitely a daunting task. However, eBay proved to be the right place to look at because it was there that I found a Thai seller putting this very watch up for sale. I quickly vetted through the seller, peered at every photo on the listing, consulted the finance minister of the household, and then, once I felt confident, I pulled the trigger. The shipping took a while, which bothered me a little to be honest, but it was worth the wait. For a mere 3% of the price of the cheapest brand new Cartier Tank, here I have a watch from a brand with great brand pedigree, incredible linen textured dial, and a great case design that has it's own character and charm with great dimensions-26.6mm wide, 35.1mm lug to lug. Oh, did I mention that it is RAZOR THIN? The quartz movement allows it to be just 5mm thin, making it the perfect watch to slip under a shirt cuff. Hence, the hunt is now complete. I have my rectangular dress watch, and it will be a while until I get the chance to go on the hunt again. Until then, the Dolce will keep ticking away. When's the last time you went on a hunt?

Great first post! The most daunting task was getting that approval from the feared Finance Minister! Good Work! Chapeau! Old boy! Chapeau!
