Telemeter chronostop

Just arrived yesterday a 1950's Elco Telemeter chronostop an unusual watch .Think it was mainly used to measure the distance between speed of sound and speed of light .Has two pushers on left side of case push push bottom one and red second hand starts to move push top one and it stops .But unlike a chronograph function stoping the red second hand also stops the watch so to use as a watch you have to have the red hand moving all the time .Odd feature and one that wouldn't be used much today in a digital age but I suppose back in the day could have been useful for many fields including meteorological or rocket science .If anyone has more information please let me know .

Why do you think it was used for sound or light?

Cause doing a bit of research on a Telemeter chronostop and that is what is was used for

The Telemeter is a function that measures the approximate distance from the point of measurement to an event such as a firework or bolt of lightning/thunder. It uses the difference between the speed of sound and the speed of light to estimate the distance to an event that generates both light and sound simultaneously.
