What does a watch tell you about the person wearing it?

Do you think that much can be said about someone based on what watch they wear or nothing really?

·

Rolex means they care about appearances, Seiko means they like watches but don’t like spending money :D

·

I think the watch you wear can mean a lot but only the right people. Those that carefully pick their watch allow it to say something about them. Those that throw on a G-Shock just want it to tell the time and not break, simple really

Don’t you think the simple fact they want their watch to not break and just tell the time says something? I would argue it means they are very utilitarian, at least in my eyes

Sure I suppose you could look at it like that. I like to think the complications someone wears highlights what they think is important. Like a chronograph guy is a stickler for being on time, a tourbillon guy is all puffery..

I think we can get too deep into the watches people wear. Often is the case that people just buy a watch because they like the look of it or what it is made from and how it goes with their outfits. Watches are fashion at the end of the day. It's not always more like we think it is

But your sense of fashion says a lot about you! I do get you though, not everyone cares like us watch nerds

·

What a great question!  I much prefer to hear the story behind the watch, which tells me more about the person.

I asked on reddit and the majority of people with chronos said they only got it because the subdials were nice to look at. And a case could be made that most expensive watch owners are all puffery regardless of complication

You can't judge a book by it's cover 🤔

·

For me it’s all about how I feel about the watch. Buy it if I love it. Cheap or expensive doesn’t matter and I really don’t put any stock in what anyone else thinks about the watch I’m wearing except maybe other enthusiasts who might want to talk about it.

·

Try not to judge someone by their choice in watches. there are good people with poor watches and bad people with good watches. Judge someone and they judge you back with no one better for it. I admire good watches and respect a worn one for what it has seen.

I was just thinking this the other day. I hate Putin, but I can separate that from his watches. I like his watches. But he can go straight to hell.

·

I would say never judge a book by its cover. I used to be a snob on many brands, but realized who am I to judge someone on a watch alone.

But If I see you were an multiple kinds of invicita's on several different occasions I can start to judge a bit lol

That's why I just ask everyone I see with a watch on what they're wearing it usually starts a conversation and a short conversation about watches usually tells you a good bit about a person surprisingly.

·

True for me its about why I wear it and how I wear it. Also know what Im gonna say if anybody ask me.

To a degree , it depends how they present themselves , most people , even watch nerds are usually found wearing bugget watches out in the wild, and even the people who may be  wearing  something more fancy , normally just have one nice watch.

it's rare to meet a proper big boi watch collector in the wild. Im talking 5+ luxury models , as most people are not insane :p like us  addicts here
