Forged carbon, wut now? I’ve heard of marbled carbon fiber, is it kinda the same or is it a whole different process? But yeah, essentially fancy plastic when you break it down. But who cares! It looks great and is pretty damn strong (if made right) at a fraction of the weight.
Prob a little of both.. but looks sick either way. Used to love the Carbonox material Luminox uses which looks similar. So light it feels fake but never showed wear.
Maurice Lacroix recently issued the Aikon Tide collection using ocean plastic. I’d be intrigued to see a plastic watch other than a swatch. I can’t ever see it being fine watch material but maybe for a beater watch or tool watch it could work. After all, we use hard plastics for things like furniture that are known to take a beating.
It’s a snazzy watch. I really like the grey dial in a titanium case. https://bamfordlondon.com/products/bamford-titanium-b347-grey-white-flame-orange?variant=39542015590458
Zack that's a killer looking Chrono. I wonder how titanium compares in weight? I like the fun color schemes they do with this model... But I really like the panda variant.
nice watch! I thought about picking this up but wasn’t sure about its build and craftsmanship as I never tried any Bamford watches. May I know what materials are used for the pusher, crown and case back? Can’t seem to find much information on Google.
From an engineering perspective, carbon's forte comes from it's tensile strength (resistance to stretch).
In that vein, for a watch case, wouldn't a higher performing material be concrete? 😉
Love the texture of the carbon though 👍
I know I am reviving an old threat, I just saw the release of the "Tissot Sideral" update - I was wondering whether you knew if forged carbon has the same scratch resistance as regular steel?

Put me in the high performance, non-metallic camp (at least that's what I'm using to justify a future Doxa Sub-300 carbon purchase).

Looks awesome! I like that some manufacturers are doing interesting things with case materials, there is no reason "plastics" can't make good watches.
That makes the Omega / swatch look like a bottle cap.
@zachweiss Do you know if this material can be re-used/recycled?
So many fancy names for fancy plastics these days!

that's a great question, and I have no idea, but will look into it!

I agree. I think there is a lot of opportunity in plastics/resins!
