Time Keeping, the Antikythera Mechanism and the YES Watch.

In 1900 a deep sea sponge diver off the coast of the Greek island Antikythera discovered a strange lump of metal and brought it to the surface. It stayed a mystery for decades until modern day x-rays revealed its inner workings.

It proved to be the most fantastic time keeping machine ever made, over 2000 years ago. It kept track of the natural cycles of the sun and the moon, the five naked planets as well as solstices, equinoxes and yes, the Olympic Games.

In 2002, a couple of years after we launched our first WorldWatch collection a watch colleague told me about the Antikythera mechanism and it quite blew my mind. The celestial bodies lay at the foot of all horology and here was proof that my reasoning and creation mirrored that of the Ancient Greek astronomers.

Nobody knows who built it, but a safe bet would be Posidonius out of Rhodes island. I’d love to go back in time and have a glass of wine with that guy. 🍻

Amazing stuff, been interested in it for a while. Sad the tech didn't keep evolving, who knows where we'd be now 😎👍🏻👍🏻

We evolved it. 😂
