Ultimately for me watches are a tool! I wore 1 watch for 7 years and was happy as could be. So when I decided I wanted more than one watch. I did what most people do, I got a Dive, Dress and Sport watch (excuse for another dive watch)
Perfect, All done, no need for anything else. Then I decided I needed a box for my watches. Well, I know I’ll probably buy a watch sometime in the far off distant future. So I should get a box that has some extra slots. Now I’m set, time to sit back and watch Youtube watch reviews. I have everything I need, So I smugly watch endless reviews knowing I want for nothing. Then as Teddy Baldassarre reminds us all “You’ve gotta budget for food” But you need this chronograph. OMG I’ve never seen anything like that!
I have room in my box and this is a good addition to the Selection of watches I have. This will be my unique watch to round out my choices. Then all of a sudden I feel like I should just fill the other slots in my box and be done. So time to research and rationalize my next 7 watches. Box Full!
Damn it feels so good to have Collection of watches! Now that I’m a Collector, It’s time to decide what I need a bunch of Next! And so the Rabbit Hole journey begins for too many of us!
It's not too Late for you!
You Don’t have to be a collector to be a watch enthusiast !

Yep seems like we fell down that rabbit hole also lol.
I'm very new into watches and try to pretend that I think way to logical to fall down this rabbit hole. Well, I feel like we gonna have to talk about the same topic in some years again, cheers
So what has happened when you start thinking about the new furniture you need to hold all of your watch boxes?
Just googled that Jaeger lecoutre. 😮
Didn't see the price, but the "lesser" version is showing as £94,000😮

You, @whitesalmon, and the rest of your usual suspects need serious help, bro! I am serious and glad to be at the bottom of the list along with @Max. Probably we are the only two sane enthusiasts on #watchcrunch. Thanks for the mention all the same! 🤪😜
The clues is in my name!
Keep it cheap. Stops the Grail Lust Syndrome .
Look but don’t touch. Touch but don’t taste. Taste but don’t swallow.

Seemed appropriate. 😂
So what has happened when you start thinking about the new furniture you need to hold all of your watch boxes?
You mean like this?
I've definitely fallen down the rabbit hole in a big way. I wrestle with the whole concept of watch collecting on an almost daily basis. I can see the ridiculousness of the hobby but at the same time, I get satisfaction from it. I've tried to rationalize my purchases, but I can't, so I'm content with simply thinking of watch collecting as a hobby of the heart. Decisions aren't really ever based on logic, but rather on emotion.
Sounds too familiar to me …😂😖

What's funny is, The bottom of the list is really the Top🤣

I couldn't agree more!
I just tell myself that I have enough and I don’t need “more” and
I should have listed to the lines of Jerry Lee Lewis in "Walk the Line..."
"God gave us a great big apple, see, and He said don't touch it. He didn't say touch it once in a while; He didn't say take a nibble when you're hungry; He said don't touch it! Don't think about touchin'it, don't sing about touchin' it, don't *think* about singin' about touchin' it!"

That’s… that’s a watch chest

Oh thanks I was doing laundry! I do a lot of wrist checks to stay fit!
Excellent.
We are very good at self deception and convincing ourselves that buying another watch doesn't really mean anything. I know that I'm doing it every time I see a watch that catch my interest.
It's been months since I added or changed anything to my collection. I don't intend to because I have everything I want, but then didn't @watchchris say that the new 43mm Bulova Lunar Pilot is supposed to be announced this month, and there is also this nice type XX chrono I've been eyeing since I don't have any mechanical chrono, which is very sad, and maybe a solar diver with which I can experiment with oil fill. and...no, no, no. I'm strong. I can stop anytime I want. just watch...ooooh...shinny!
Down the hole we followed...
and never looked back! 😂

I’m currently at that point where I’m kind of trying not to buy yet another box…. but my two most recent G-Shocks are living in their tins because I’m out of room, again sigh 😂😂😂
Inevitably it’s off to Amazon soon for another one…
They’re stacked two deep now, on a shelf…with two double “stackers” travel boxes next to ‘em, also full.
I could do with some Watch Furniture too @whitesalmon Oh God!! 😂
I absolutely love being here and you guys are all brilliant 🍻

That's exactly what happened to me a few months back. The old box was full and there were still 2 watches left outside. And yes I took the same route, Amazon delivered the new box within a week. And now the slots are half-full.. or is it half-empty??
I'm mostly on the other way around. After the Corso Italiano and the Explorer I kind o feel I need to get rid of watches, reduce the collection and stick with those two watches and a GMT. And that should be it.
Someday my watches will start to work for me too by collaborating with youtube :) Very soon. But i'm agree on almost all of points. I'm always keeping it in my budget. And without being so specific about what I want or need, i'm not taking a look to watch as a potential purchase just because I liked it. For example for the Conquest. I always loved how it looks and feels like. But until i decided to buy a black dial watch for outfit completing, i never researched deeply about it because it was off topic for me.
Also i've tried to tell what I did for my collection :)

I'm right here with you!
After having some time not buying and originally waiting over 1.5 years after my first nice purchase to buy.
I think I am just going to have 4 nice watches , that I love ...and wear them.
I really like the idea of becoming one of the cool people on talking watches who have 4-6 really nice , worn in watches. each having a story.
Trying to work out a trade atm to get rid of my Tudor royal and GS snowflake for a mint green nav chrono 🙂
I've started selling a few, some of which I thought I would never sell. The longer you're in the watch game, The wiser you get.
You only can wear so many and that's my main deciding factor if a watch has to go. If I'm not wearing one enough or the love is lost. I put it in my ebay store with a buy it now and it goes into my sell drawer.
My interest has turned towards vintage 70's and back. Some that I buy will be worn for a while and then sold. But I will always have around 50 watches at any given time. Some watches I will never sell. Not because they are expensive but because I just love them.
Case in point my world renowned "Swiss Ritz"
