Partial State of my Collection

And here we are guys. A big part of my beloved (and some not so much) watches. They have taken me for an amazing journey and I grow with them. Some will stay with me forever and some, which come from my amateur watch “collecting” days (aka fashion crap), will soon be gone! Any thoughts, suggestions for the future are more than welcome. Enjoy your weekend and take care!

it's clear that you're passionate about your watches and have spent a lot of time creating your collection.

you might not get much for your fashion watches on ebay etc. but it's still nice to create some space and to fund new additions!

I like the hamilton, orients and a few of the seiko and casio watches. which ones do you like the most? what is your grail watch?

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Really appreciated! You are right about the fashion watches. In the end I keep them because they are part of my memories and they were gifts given to me at my early 20’s by people very close to me. I love all of my Casios. I am proud of them. My SKX007j is my grail or at least it is until my next one which I hope it will be a Tudor black bay or an Omega speedmaster moonphase. My Raymond Weil is my most beautiful one in my humble opinion. My 2 Kamasu are my secret affairs and I am expecting an Orient Neo 70's WV0041TX Panda Dial Solar Chronograph arriving from Japan very soon which I think will be one of my top 5 but let’s see. I am definitely a diver watch guy but I try lately to diversify my collection. My Hamilton is really nice and I love it too but in my 21,5cm wrist looks very small so I don’t enjoy it as much as the others. Apart from the fashion watches which ones are the ones you like the least?

the panda dial is a nice looking watch.

it's not really for me to say re: least favourite. my preference tends to be for watches that have a bit of a story associated with them e.g. my most recent acquisition is a scurfa diving watch; they are very reasonably priced diving watches created by paul scurfield, a career saturation diver and enthusiastic collector of vintage rolex and tudor watches.

I can usually find something interesting in most brands of watch e.g. I don't know anything about festina, but a quick google suggests they've bene around since 1902 and whilst their brand positioning has been more fashion/lifestyle in recent years, they've also got some association with the tour de france (official timekeeper between 1992 and 2016)... so one of their pieces associated with cycling could be interesting etc.

with that in mind, I'd be less interested in the lifestyle or homage-brand only pieces.

The scurfa diver is a very beautiful watch. I like how the yellow hands stand out. History and the stories behind each watch are the reason we collect watches in the first place. I have to say I am somewhere in the middle regarding what drives my passion with collecting watches. The pedigree and the stories are indeed responsible for the 80% of it but there is another 20% that based on some criteria allows me to enjoy also homage pieces. I wouldn’t particularly oppose to a well build, with quality materials and high craftsmanship standards watch because it honours through its existence another known timepiece. But this of course is purely based on personal taste and preference. I always say that watch enthusiasts can collect any type of watch they feel intrigued by. As long as they are not fake of course! I feel that the world of watches is highly impacted by the homage mentality. We see even lux brands copying each other and most of the well respected brands have in their collections watches greatly influenced by watches of other brands. With that said the world of horology is so vast that can embrace every taste and trend and this is what makes it so appealing. Nice chat 🙏

Thanks for the feedback. We are almost aligned. From the 3rd box I will definitely keep the Seikos (the Arabic dial especially), the Timex Expedition and the Orient Kamasu! For the rest as you say if I find the right moment they are good to go! For the 1st box I will also keep my Raymond Weil Maestro which is quite new in the collection and I love the dial.

Nice collection. Nothing too extreme, and pretty much every situation that you need a watch for is covered. Some duplication, but we all do that.

Thanks! I am working on taming my impulses. Sometimes I just can’t choose one of two similar options and I buy both watches but at least we are mainly talking about Casios and Seikos so I can still do crazy things in an affordable manner.
