Should I sell my Tudor BB GMT to buy a Rolex Explorer?

I called a Rolex AD today to ask if they could put me on a waiting list to get an Explorer and, as a matter of surprise, the told me that, if I wanted, I could go and pick it up tomorrow. I missed the train two years ago and I can’t miss this opportunity, again. So, I tell them that I’m buying it. The thing is, as watch enthusiasts we are, watches drain our wallets and something has to go. I’m thinking of my Tudor BB GMT, which I grew up very fond of. But know I’m thinking whether to make the effort and keep both or not. These are two very different time pieces and it doesn’t seem fair to me to let one go, even if the Explorer is my grail. What do you guys think?

They're very different watches with different uses, so I'd keep both.

That said, I might be somewhat biased given that this is my wrist today:

I think if you could keep them both you will be glad you did in the long run. You are right, financially speaking, most of us have to make that call at some point to not overspend in this expensive endeavor to have a nice collection that means something personal to us. Maybe give yourself 6 months with both...if you need to let it go do it at that time. Congrats!

Dont buy the Rolex, Keep the Tudor 😉
Rolex is really just overpriced eye candy IMHO and its not worth getting shot over...

Couldn’t agree more. I think Ill make an effort to keep both of them

If you are attached to the GMT, then you should probably keep them both.  If it's just a watch, I'm sure you could fairly easily get another one if you were torn up over letting it go.

Yes, thats right. So far, Im trying to keep only what has sentimental value for me. I have my grandfathers Rolex Date which I dont use it much but its what brought me into watches. The rest, are maybe watches that I’ll give away to friends and family because make no sense in selling them like a bunch of swatchs I have from when I was 12

#tudor  GMT is readily available. If you are crunched for $$ sell it and get it later. If you are rolling in $$$ keep them both.

·

Keep them both and I’ll store the BB GMT in my watch box for you! 😉

I voted keep both

I assume it's not a explorer 2

Nope, explorer 1. I borrow my father‘s explorer 2 from time to time

·

If it's easy for you to swing both financially, then it makes sense to do so. If you need to sacrifice something else to make it happen, perhaps it makes more sense to sell the GMT.

·

Ignore the Rolex because your not getting a better watch with the huge price difference. Wait until the recession drives the MSRP down.. and it will.

Yeah, if it's an Explorer II it's an easy yes from me.

If it's an Explorer, and it's his grail that's going to get almost all wrist time, I'd say yes too.  It's just not something I would personally do cause the Explorer doesn't do it for me personally.

You think MSRP is going to go DOWN?  I don't see that happening.  Grey market prices are already going down, but I'm not sure I've ever seen MSRP prices go down on luxury items.

Certainly with how much Rolex keeps raising prices, they are figuring out (from grey market prices) they can get a lot more for their watches and going for it.

That Tudor GMT is beautiful!

Definitely keep BOTH! 🍻

I could see grey market prices going below msrp.

So i'll buy my polar explorer 2, once it's below 7k€.

Just a matter of how bad and long the recession will be!

Well, the people has spoken…I guess I’m keeping both!
