Which would you pick? And looking for dive watch suggestions 3-5k

Looking at a serious dive watch to mark the occasion when I go/pass scuba cert. I was re-watching Casino Royale for the 1000th time and love how the PO on rubber looks in action. I'm open to hearing suggestions but I think I have a decent feel for what I want in my next acquisition. There are some Oris/Breitlings I've tried on, nice watches but wouldn't scratch the itch for me. Some additional notes/caveats: -I've tried on the Pelagos LHD but the clasp was backwards so I don't have a feel for the true fit. -Also I'm not sure how the spring loaded clasp would feel in action if it's actually comfy or too clampy -I would love a LHD model with a few 8's in the number on the caseback for good luck -Looking to buy pre-owned if that makes a difference

You can't go wrong with the Omega Planet Ocean - scratches the Bond itch, looks amazing on a bracelet, rubber or NATO. Will hold its value, especially if acquired pre-owned (just make sure all the seals are good). And its an Omega. Casino Royale baby!

I like the planet ocean, but I LOVE the 300M!

I like the Pelagos, just not the LHD... If it was a black Pelagos against a black PO, I'd have voted Pelagos.

ive tried some norqain's but dont really do anything for me. And I want something with some name cache

·

I already have a 300m diver with the brosnan bond smp so it would clash. Also my SMP is blue too

·

Between these two I would go for the Planet Ocean. I think it's better looking, and has more cool factor than the pelagos. Just to share a couple wildcard suggestions, the Doxa Sub300 is a classic diver, and I would also recommend checking out the ZRC 1964 French Navy Reissue. It has a spring-loaded bracelet that is extremely comfortable (I tried it on once and loved it!), and can also stretch over a wetsuit. https://shop.zrc1904.ch/gb/1964-french-navy-re-issue/205-1964-french-navy-re-issue.html

I've considered a doxa but my baby monster fulfills that colorful diver box. That ZRC is interesting but definitely not for me

As a Sinn fan I would suggest a Sinn U50. Exceptional watch and cheaper as the above.

I can appreciate the ruggedness but those hands... lol I don't play minecraft

...and same reason I don't like the current BP Bathyscaphe

#seiko  makes some amazing divers and offers incredible value and craftsmanship in that price range. Here’s my #sla043 which gets more wrist time than my #rolex #seadweller 😏

as much as I love seiko, I already have 6 in the collection with a 7th on the way

·

i'm looking for something with some wrist presence and my smp is already 42mm

·

Try checking out divers by Squale and Wise.

·

Damn that's a hard one.

Already got a Planet Ocean, and i'm still open to buy that Pelagos LHD.

The LHD has a great mondern Vintage Vibe.

If i could only own one, it would be the PO though.

·

Omega all the way. Love the look of this watch and there colors are beautiful. Just size could be a issue but if it's not then go for it.✌️💪

43mm BBB

Or, based on your comments, the cherry red Oris. That thing is gorgeous. If between the two you listed, my vote is PO.

wow, that's very different from what I've seen for the bb bronze

Oh yeah?  This is my BBB. Have had it for over a year, so a good amount of patina, and here it is on a light gray strap that I chose because I felt it went nice with the slate gray dial.

I actually dig the tone, it looks like some silver/steel alloy instead of bronze. Of course it could just totally be lighting lol

Nothing beats a good ceramic bezel

·

I was considering a PO vs a Pelagos myself a few years ago. The PO won out. I found the Pelagos too slab sided and too dull and toolish. I like a little sparkle on my watches. Honestly, I prefer the large BBs over the Pelagos.

lots of good shouts there,

I bet that certina would be awesome if the bezel was lumed.

Some other points: if I were to go Oris, it would be the cherry red dial.

If you forced me to pick a BB58 model, I'd go with the 925 even though I'm not 100% convinced the silver would look great in a few years

Those Yema 6 9 numerals look ripped off of the Oris Divers 65 if you know what I mean.

The Mido and Doxa are interesting, I like them but not enough to buy.

Zodiac is a really nice shade of blue, just wish there were more numbers on the bezel

Unfortunately, only the pip at 12 O'Clock is lumed on the Certina bezel - I agree it would be awesome if they had lumed the entire bezel.

On the Yema - Oris is actually following the French design by Yema who produced that design in the 1960s with their Superman. The Superman was marketed under the Yema and Le Jour names. Here is a vintage ad for the Le Jour (Yema) Superman from the 1960s (you can see the patented Yema lock in red which was used to lock the dive bezel in place):

Zodiac also used this style of design in its Super Sea Wolf references.

Many people mistake this as an Oris design because of the Diver 65 model from Oris. But that model really points back to the original designs by Yema and Zodiac.

very cool, good to know. Kind of like how the Speedy looks like the Rodania Geometer, which came out 3 years earlier in 1954

Yeah even though when I tried the LHD, the clasp was backwards, I did think the Pelagos was a bit too chunky when trying on the regular Peli's. It doesn't quite have the same compactness as my baby monster/5kx. Could be due to thickness and/or lug to lug.

I was actually considering the bb heritage smiley's as a first watch but decided to go with my heart and pick the Omega brosnan bond.

·

My collection won't provide for a biased opinion, but the PO is superior in every way.  I've owned both, just my .02

·

I consider that version of the PO to be one of the best watch designs of the last 20 years.  I should never have sold mine...

·

I may have watched Casino Royale a thousand times as well, but mostly to see Eva Green.😍

I have one PO as well as a blue and a black Pelagos.  I really like them all.  The PO is a bit blingy for some applications, but the plated hands add legibility in many situations.  The Pelagos is definitely “toolier“, thinner and lighter.  I like both the bracelets, but the PO’s is a cut above.  I regularly use the quick adjust on both, but the “springy” part of the Pelagos’ bracelet is not really useful to me: it feels too snug for my taste.  Also the PO bracelet is more easily adjusted without removing from the wrist (less chance of a drop.)
