[IWOTD] Interesting Watch of the Day #2 - Breguet La Musicale 7800

I first saw this in a Breguet publication that came with my Breguet catalogue and was able to experience it in person (albeit without photos). This precious metal piece comes in yellow gold, rose gold, and white gold. The rose gold version chimes "Badinerie" by JS Bach and the white and yellow gold versions chime "Thieving Magpie" by Rossini. The guilloche patterns vary on the dial depending on which metal you choose.

This complication is simply wonderful. It's a music box inside the watch and the inner disc right inside the hour numerals spins when played. The treble clef counterweight on the alarm hand is marvelous and so stylish. The sides of the case are also beautifully engraved with a musical staff and notes as well. The four pushers/crowns are for

  1. triggering the chime (top left)
  2. turning the alarm/chime on or off (bottom left)
  3. setting the time (top right)
  4. winding the power reserve for the chime and setting the alarm/chime (I believe that's what the SA told me at the boutique) (bottom right)

As a classically trained musician since the age of four, this piece spoke, err sang, to me. As Bach is one of the pillars of classical music, Breguet is equally one of the pillars of watchmaking and innovation.

Along with the A. Lange & Sohne Datograph, the rose gold version (2nd image in post) is something I will long aspire to own and cherish.

A stunning piece. My late father would have loved this.
