A Risqué Swatch that becomes very weird the more you know about it

So this might be the first NSFW post on here? Not trying to start something just want to share this weird watch, which I have no idea how it made it past the product development team. I guess times have changed?

This is the Swatch GM128 named Lolita. I will get to the nickname a bit later and will give a bit of a back story of how I found and got this watch.

6 years ago I was looking for Swatches from my birth year (1995). I always liked how crazy Swatch can get with their designs, and how affordable they were. So an affordable watch that can be interesting is a win for me. Browsing a catalog of Swatch watches from 1995. I was able to do this on the Swatch website, but it seems like they removed this functionality now? SwatchAndBeyond is the best reference to find Birth Year Watches (that I know of). There were a few I liked and put on my list (Che, Watch,Atlanta Laurels) but this one stood out. "Boobies on a watch" was my initial thought. Not that it was for the dial, but just how Swatch did give a shit and still did it. I thought it would be a cool watch to wear and a conversation starter. Not very feminist I know (my girlfriend hates this watch), but I still added it to my eBay watchlist.

I tried to get this watch for pretty cheap and saw the price normally around $90-$100CAD. I had some sort of principle that I would not pay those prices for this watch, for some reason. Last year I finally saw one go for around $60CAD and decided to pull the trigger. However, the reason I pulled the trigger last year is very different than the "Boobies on a watch" thought I had originally.

Now the nickname. Maybe I am the only one who was out of the loop but I never knew of the book "Lolita". I found out much later what Lolita was. My initial thought, with no research, was maybe it's some name given to Pinup Posters of the past or something, I didn't make a big deal out of it.

For those uninitiated, Lolita is a book narrated by the main protagonist, an adult male named Humbert. This gentlemen Humber falls in love with a 12-year-old. The gist of it is that this man is a pedophile who takes advantage of a young girl, named Dolores, but he nicknames her "Lolita". I didn't read the book...but I did watch a lot of YouTube videos to get a better understanding, and this was my favorite one, for those who would like to know some more.

Back to why I bought it. Now, this watch is no longer "Boobies on a watch" and now has become "12-year-old girl being sexualized". I believe the image is in reference to how the protagonist views her. I find it crazy, that even though this is referencing literature, they still pulled the gun on this. I am not sure if something like this would be able to be released in 2022. That is why I bought it. Maybe it's proof of how times change?

I am not too sure why they released this watch. The book came out in 1955, so maybe for a 40th anniversary? A movie came out in 1997, so maybe an early movie promotional piece? Either way an interesting watch, that I don't ever wear outside the confines of my own house.

More of a collector's piece with a story than something I want to wear haha

My bet is that the person who designed the watch and the person that named it were not thinking of Nabokov's Lolita.  This watch looks more like the work of Alberto Vargas.

Let me recommend Nabokov to all those who appreciate exquisitely precise and beautiful prose. If the themes of Lolita are too heady for you try Ada or Pale Fire.  Nabokov was a master. (He fled Russia to Germany, Germany to the United States, and finally made his way to Switzerland. He was an amateur lepidopterist of note.)

That was the meaning in the book but for a long time is meant seductive young woman. Now Halloween will see most of the female party fans dress up like that. Its only sexist when they are not doing it. Young people are silly.

We have seen more "skanty" on TV, at the mall, the Kardashian's reality bits.  No need for getting upright.   However it is an interesting story.  Gratzi.

I agree, however when it comes to watches I feel like all that is left behind, even though there are luxury watches that have minute repeaters depicting different sexual acts.

And also thank you!

Those others were the ones I had in mind.  Yours is nothing in comparison.   And yours is a keeper for sure.  Thanks again for posting it.  It was chuckle chuckle worthy.
