This weekend I visited a friend who is a photographer and wants to try himself out in watch photography. I brought a couple of watches with myself and when he saw them all side by side, he was immediately drawn to Seiko Ginza. For him, this is the most beautiful dial he has ever seen and of course, wanted this watch to be the first one we shoot. I have to say, it was very tricky to position lights in such a way that the whole dial is lit evenly, but without much reflections on the case. But I think he did a phenomenal job in the end (and as a bonus I got a new desktop wallpaper).
Since I know that a lot of watch guys are also into photography, I'm curious, which watch you like photographing the most?

awesome shot and watch how does your friend set up the light? its nice to not have reflection on the dial. i find its easier to photograph wristwatch with bracelet. these two are my favourite shot, watch isnt mine btw

Awesome shots! He uses three flashes with two soft boxes and one octa box + light diffusers. What setup do you use?

i use 3 softbox also but the sh*ttiest one lol, also some background pad without reflector as im not a professional and just do photography for a hobby
I hesitate to post my pictures on these types of threads but my favourite watch to photo is my Clemence Photic Diver
My Black Bay Panda Chrono is my most photogenic watch…
I am a professional photographer and never ever did watches, because I am more a documentary photographer. But here I am, buying macro lenses and display shit... It's a really tough job taking good pictures of watches and I thi k your friend did a great job. For me, the Seiko Presage or the Todur 58 bronze are very tempting to photograph.
Please choose any of my watches you want to see with today's date! 😁🤷🏽♂️

What tools/materials were used to prop up and pose those watches?
I never really put much effort into taking pics of my watches. It might be perceived as showing off on social media.

Who cares? Take photos and post what you want! 😉
Fantastic shot! Amazing watch and fantastic photo.
I always thought the seiko cocktail hour watches would photography very well. At some point, I'll bring in the red dial for some photos.
I think you only really need a single speed light, off camera. The key is killing ambient light with a high shutter speed.

beautiful! I have the same BB Chrono panda and I'd have to agree, it is quite photogenic!
ok.. nothing super special here, but I took some photos of my Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 43.5mm with a decent camera outside on my patio (too many clouds, though, and the lighting, though natural, was not great). I was actually planning on selling it at the time, but have since decided to keep this one!
These two guys, but the Rolex is trying to assimilate the Tudor. Wants to be a Borg
The question is a little loaded. My most photogenic watches are probably my Pagani Explorer and my San Martin sportswatch:
They kind of look good no matter what you throw at them.
But that's not always what I want. When I want a picture that tells a story a poor shot may exactly be what the doctor ordered. I was writing a rather damning review for a Constantin Weisz watch, and this shot was just perfect to capture the god-damn-awfulness of the watch:
Turtle is king
My divers always photograph best, though that may just be my preference for them, and steel in general:

One of my few disappointments from the meet-up is that I didn’t see your Pagani close up. On the plus side, it probably prevented me from buying one, because the shots you post of it always look good.

It is gorgeous.
These shots just remind me how much I suck as a photographer.
It is gorgeous.
Thank you, Sir! 🍻
I dont have many watches but I love my Seiko Sharp Edge Red. I'm also soooooo jealous of your Ginza. I love the Dial of that watch SO much! Your choice of strap with the colour matched blue stitching is superb. Custom strap?
These shots only makes me realize how much I suck at photography.

you have great taste

Thank you, kind Sir. It takes exceptional taste to recognize great taste! 🙏🏼🍻
Ha! I'm with your friend. The Alpinist Ginza is a beast to get lighting right... but when you do it's amazing.
My newish Sakura GS also crushes it in the right light.
This one definitely has incredible angles and depth to the dial making every shot unique. Lovely indeed! I'm loving the dial on my Lundis Bleus. Great case and shape and depth to the dial.
