Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver. The best chronograph for around around 2000$?

Nivada Grenchen is a brand with a rich history. The brand rose to fame in the 50's & 60's for their ruggedness by always pushing the limits of watch design. The Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver is not a typical chronograph. Originally designed in 1963, it was intended to be a tough diving capable chronograph that could be used in any situation. Apart from the standard stop-watch function, it also has a tachometer and a yachting timer. This piece is from that period, and with it's 38mm case and 20mm lug width, it's a real strap monster. We love pairing it with our Two-Stitch Maroon Red to match the red accents on the dial. In 2018 Nivada Grenchen released a reissue of this watch, which is in my opinion one of the best chronographs you can buy for around 2000$.

What is your choice for a chronograph in this price range?

definitely one of my grail chronograph

The Chronomaster is a very nice watch, Hamilton, Longines & Tissot also have some nice chronographs at this price point. You can also find vintage examples around $2,000 as well

That Nivada Grenchen is a stunner!

To offer some thoughts on your question...

I've been lusting after this Hanhart for a while. Got to try it on at Windup Watch Fair NYC (the 38mm one) this past year. Waiting for the right moment to try to get one.

Also found myself surprisingly smitten with this Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope. Totally different vibe, but really like the silver dial and bauhaus design.

And this Farer Meredith is pretty cool if a tad over the $2k limit.

I love it, but preferred these hands to the big arrow

Very well re-edited, good specs, and reasonable price, giving options of choice between several versions of the Chronomaster. It was a good move from the guys of new Nivada.

But later came this… and changed everything:

Same caliber, 38mm, same price (a bit cheaper in fact)… and absolutely stunning. Another monster strap. This is my chrono choice for around $2000 (new).

How do you like the action of the bezel? I know it's friction (non-clicking) so wondering how well it stays in position as you wear it. Thanks for your impressions.

It has lots of resistance so it won't just turn on its own

Don't know how I missed this post the first time.

I am a huge fan of the Nivada Grenchen/Croton Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver (and the Chronoking) as you can see...
