Serica 4512 - which is your favourite?!

I dont typically ask people's opinions when it comes to watches. Its not because Im close minded, its because I like to discover what I like by experiencing it myself. However, this is a hard thing to do sometimes with watches since some are not as easily accessible.

Hence my current dilema, if you can call it that, with Serica. Ive been obsessing about this microbrand for a couple weeks now and really want to try one. But the issue is I dont know anyone with real world experience with these beyond some youtube reviews. Its not like there is a boutique that carries them either.

They only have two lines, a field watch and a dive watch, but the field one seems to be the most popular. @Max already burst my bubble a bit with the diver, however even he seemed to like the field version.

In summary, my questions to any fellow crunchers that have (or have not) experienced these watches: What are your thoughts on the overall design and which is your favourite + why? If you own(ed) one, did you hang on to it + why yes or no?

Ill very likely try one regardless at some point, but always interesting to hear people's takes.

I like the option on the right the best though I also like the California dial they do.

·

Are the two the same size, because to me it seems the right one gives a more compact feeling and way better dial with that railtrack minute markers.

The left one gives a large dial feel, the right one looks just right in my opinion.

I think you captured what I was trying to figure out. The minute track on the right contains the dial while the left feels like it goes more directly from dial to case. Further, the right minute track seems to better justify the placement of the Arabic hour markers. The left side feels to me like they are too close to the center due to the negative space around the outside of the dial.

Side question: Besides initial movement issues, have people had aesthetic/ practical issues with the diver? I almost bought the white dial when they came out but bit the bullet for a BB58 instead. I still feel drawn to that delightfully weird diver.

Right?! That white dial diver looks so unique. Max's comment was that if felt cheap, he didnt even hold on to it long enough to do a review. Im wondering if theyve improved their later batches.

I like both alot, but if I have to choose I will choose the one on the right one as our friends prior to me elaborated.

My only personal gripe on the design which also reflects my gripe on many of the omegas, is the large but short arrow hour hand. Makes the hour and minutes hands look largely disproportionate to me personally.

I have the WMB and would make the same call today. It is a perfectly sized watch and works with just about any strap. I have to eventually put the Bonklip bracelet back on, but to me, it may be the best version of this style of field watch. No concerns since I purchased it.

Obviously the California dial is the 4512 to get because that's the one I have 😉

The Serica is in my top 3 heavy rotation, it's great on all straps and while the bonklip look might be an acquired taste, it really is the most comfortable bracelet I've ever worn.

I actually prefer the field on the right because the dial design opens up the face and makes it wear bigger with the numerals pushing out toward the bezel. But that is a consideration if you have larger wrists like me.

I have been turning this decision over also. I am 95% on the commando (left), the design and bonklip is seriously cool. Trouble is I know I will end up buying the diver with blue bezel also. Serica for the win. 💪

Thanks for the link to your other post, helpful seeing it compared to others. It really does stand out with the water resistance and screw down crown. But to be fair the new Hamilton Khaki Titaniums are also top shelf IMO, just a different design. I feel the Serica is really versatile beyond being a field watch.

i Love the khakis, do not get me wrong, but everyone has one and the Serica simply stands out. It also surpasses them in terms of finishing. That said, I feel less guilty beating up a khaki than I would a Serica.

I was Commando a week ago and then went back to WMB. The bonklip is what sold me to begin with as well. Ive heard both good and bad reviews for the diver which is a bit of a bummer because I really like it too!

agreed. I also saw @Max take on the diver. whilst I respect his opinion on this, I feel I need to experience this watch for myself. I'm lucky that I have many watches like most on here so these Serica's will be part of a rotation.

To chime in on the quality feel topic - I can't speak for the 5303 but for 4512.

I can totally understand that for many people this watch doesn't feel on par with other watches in that price category. It doesn't have the agreed upon characteristics of a mid tier watch. It doesn't feel dense and slightly too heavy. The brushing is in no way artful. The crown isn't signed. The dimensions do not resemble any widely known luxury watch. Let's not start to talk about t he level of bracelet integration!

Sometimes my "non watch people" friends and family comment on what I wear. No one of them would ever think that my Serica is anything but an affordable or old watch.

I totally get that this is a deal-breaker for many because you can interpret this as shortcomings. For that amount of cash you can get watches that feel much more expensive and are perceived as better right away.

I preferred the one on the right -- I like the railroad track and the Dirty Dozen vibes from it.

It took a few days to settle in, but I'm very happy with mine.

Im in a similar situation having discovered this brand recently. Leaning towards the www simply because it has more lume and i love lume. If the numbers were lumed on the commando thats how id go. Their diver is prett neat, but for an eclectic diver i might stretch a bit more and get a ZRC Grands Fonds.

I have the 4512 California dial with destro crown. Movement winds nicely, keeps time how I need it. Last time I checked around +6 s/day. I love the size, readability and that it’s compatible with a lot of straps due to the common 20 mm lug width. It does not feel like a ~500 CHF watch. I’d say get it. It’s just a pleasure to wear and I’ve got my eye on what they’ll bring next.

I have since purchased the watch! I got the WMB dial. Fully agreed, very versatile, great size, it even gets compliments from normies.

Clearly it's the WMB
